Zbąszyń-Podg. Chlastawa 11.05.2023 | Zielona Stonka z pociągiem gospodarczym rel. Zbąszyń-Szczecinek przed chwilą opuściła stację początkową.
This morning, I got a text saying that 1958 was on the Westbound LINHAS taking the siding for Amtrak at Berks. A few days ago, I saw that 40-2 leading a Havelock Zephyr facing west. One plus one is two and that meant that a BN SD40-2 was leading the LINHAS. I got to Crete just as he was finishing his work there. Catching up to the headend I was pretty underwhelmed, but a rainbow consist is worthy of burning a few pixels. Standing on the roof of my Rav, the wind was absolutely ripping across the fields West of Dorchester.
I went into the archives for this one, a shot I made in 2010 during a summer visit to the prairie to run a photo workshop or two and work on the house I'd just bought. I love soft light like this. I was a little startled to reach the crest of a hill and see this Pronghorn beside the road; I suspect the startle effect was mutual. He had a couple of buddies with him - three pronghorn bucks - and they bolted at the first click of my shutter.

The eastbound Hastings local had a crew all morning, but waited until after the Z had passed before they left the siding. They had work at Dorchester, and departed right as I arrived on scene.
The local would make a pretty huge pickup here at Crete. I am glad I didn't hang around to see them depart, because that took most of the day.
