25104 drags its loose fitted coal train through the apology for a station which existed at Walsall at the time! Once a fine 5 platformed station, only 2 platforms are in use when this pic was taken.Only the fine booking hall added any dignity!8/3/1975

Stagecoach in South Wales received six 12m Optare Tempos in early 2012 (25104-9) which were owned by Powys CC with Welsh Government funding. Allocated to marathon Service T4 (Cardiff-Pontypridd-Merthyr Tydfil-Brecon-Builth Wells-Llandrindod Wells-Newtown), they operated from Merthyr Tydfil depot and its Brecon outstation. Having clocked up high mileages for their age, they lasted until the arrival of the batch of 12 MCV eVoRa-bodied Volvo B8RLEs (21351-62) in 2019.

This shot from February 2012 was taken in her first week of service, passing the Storey Arms outdoor education centre on the A470 with a fair amount of snow on the slopes of Pen-y-fan (the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons range).

After the batch was returned to Powys CC for onward sale, she was purchased by Wheadons of Cardiff primarily for Rail Replacement work.

Moon setting on a misty night, El Capitan Meadow, Yosemite NP, CA, USA

I didn't plan this photo. I made a spur-of-the-moment trip to Yosemite Valley on Sunday night, thinking I'd go to Tunnel View, but instead wound up in El Cap Meadow photographing the moon setting through the mist, with Close-Encounters-like moonbeams.

The last thing I expected to see in 2019, a Rio Grande Ballast Hopper. One of three in the train and this was the best one.....especially since it had no graffiti (Thank God).

You can just about see the signalbox through the 'knitting', as the late, great Wellington used to call catenary! 24063 leading 25104 across the junction, probably en route to Dewsnap sidings

Iridium 45 flying over Lisbon...

----

Iridium Communications Inc. (formerly Iridium Satellite LLC) is a company, based in McLean, Virginia, United States which operates the Iridium satellite constellation, a system of 66 active satellites used for worldwide voice and data communication from hand-held satellite phones and other transceiver units. The Iridium network is unique in that it covers the whole Earth, including poles, oceans and airways. The company derives its name from the chemical element iridium. The number of satellites projected in the early stages of planning was 77, the atomic number of iridium, evoking the metaphor of 77 electrons orbiting the nucleus.

The satellites are frequently visible in the night sky as satellite flares, a phenomenon typically observed as short-lived bright flashes of light.
