Varenna was founded by local fishermen in 769, and was later allied with the commune of Milan. In 1126 it was destroyed by the rival commune of Como, and later received the refugees from the Isola Comacina, who had met the same fate (1169).
Назвать Варенну городом или даже городком было бы немного чересчур — это всего лишь маленькая прибрежная деревенька, бывшее рыбацкое поселение. Een ketelwagen trein via de Gouda, Zoetermeer, Binckhorstboog, Oude Lijn en Zaanlijn is zeer bijzonder maar niet helemaal uniek. HSL reed deze route op 3 april 2022 maar ook DB Cargo had dit al eens gedaan in omgekeerde volgorde op 22 juli 2020. De redenen waren hetzelfde, werkzaamheden rond Amsterdam en geen oranje bordjes via Rijswijk. Ketelwagens langs station Lisse moest natuurlijk even vastgelegd worden.
