After a period of nice sunshine a large black cloud came over just as Colas Rail Freight 37175 passed through Attenborough light engine (0Z11, 15:40 Colwick depot – Derby RTC), 6th May 2024.
Locomotive History
37175 was originally D6875 and was built by English Electric at their Vulcan Foundry works, Newton le Willows, Lancashire. It entered traffic in September 1963, allocated to Cardiff Canton MPD and would spend the next nineteen years a Canton engine. Its first transfer was in October 1982 when it moved north to Scotland, allocated to Eastfield. Apart from an seventeen month spell back on the Western Region, allocated to Laira from May 1986 the next sixteen years were spent in Scotland, allocated to Eastfield, Inverness or Motherwell. In November 1998 it transferred to Toton and was withdrawn in June 1999, being sold for preservation in June 2006. Following seven years in preservation it was acquired by Colas in January 2014 and returned to main line service.

Unit History
The Class 319 units were built for the new cross London duties from the Midland Main Line to Southern Region destinations (Thameslink) made possible by the reopening and electrification of the short link from Farringdon to Blackfriars. The units were built with dual electrification capability (25kVA ac, 750v dc) and were constructed in two batches at York Works in 1987/88 and 1990. 319424 is from the first batch of sixty units, built in 1987/88, which were classified class 319/0 and was originally 319024. During 1997/98 it was refurbished and renumbered 319424. Displaced from Thameslink duties by new Class 700 units in 2017 319424 is one of eight units being converted to Class 769 hybrid (bi model AC electric/diesel) for Northern by the addition of a MAN diesel and associated ABB alternator fixed between the bogies of the two Driving Trailer vehicles.
Recent repaint into Skills “standard” livery from National Express is BV66 WRA, on school duty outside Sawley Primary School, 14th May 2024. BV66 is a Scania K410EB6 chassis fitted with a Caetano Levante 2 body, that was new to Skills in January, 2017, and until recently used on National Express duties.

Soo Line power was used on the WC for the first few months, so here we have a Soo GP9 on the local in Oshkosh, WI hitting a little fresh snow starting WC’s first winter.
