Absolute chaos, op het oog tenminste.

Nadat ik vanochtend voor het eerst in lange tijd weer eens fysiek naar school mocht voor een multidisciplinair overleg besloot ik 's middags op hoop van zegen wat rond het spoor bij Zaltbommel te hangen. Na een heerlijke zonfoto van een LTE-trein, die later online komt, fietste ik later op de middag weer even naar de Vlierdseweg. Niet lang nadat ik aankwam, kwam er een melding binnen in de NS-app dat er een aanrijding was geweest op spoor 7 van station Den Bosch en dat er hierdoor "geen treinen van en naar 's-Hertogenbosch" reden. Dit betekende ongetwijfeld dat er niks meer zou komen en dus pakte ik mijn spullen bijeen en fietste richting huis toen mijn oog op iets opvallends viel.

Ik kreeg een filmpje doorgestuurd van een vriend, die overigens niks met treinen heeft, van een zeer langzaam rijdende sprinter nabij de Bommelsekade. Ik besloot een kijkje te gaan nemen. De laatste sprinter en intercity's die uit Den Bosch waren gekomen reden allemaal stapvoets langs de overweg. Zoekend naar waarom dit zou zijn, kwam er weer een melding binnen via de NS-app. Ditmaal stond er een defecte trein tussen Geldermalsen en Zaltbommel. Later begreep ik dat het ging om een goederentrein die het wissel blokkeerde bij de aansluiting van de Betuweroute bij Meteren, ook wel bekend als Brmet.

Doordat de trein op het wissel stond, konden twee van de drie sporen (één wachtspoor en twee doorgaande sporen) niet gebruikt worden. Inmiddels kwam ook het treinverkeer van en naar Den Bosch weer op gang dat dus allemaal via één spoor moest rijden. Het gevolg was dat al het treinverkeer vanuit het noorden linkerspoor moest rijden van Geldermalsen tot voorbij het inhaalspoor Oud-Zaltbommel. Een file van intercity's, sprinters en een Lineas Volvotrein ontstond in de velden van Bruchem.

Behalve de file en het enkele spoor dat beschikbaar was, reden de treinen nog altijd zeer langzaam over de wissels. Ik vermoed dat er een probleem is met het puntstuk van wissel 225B of 227A, omdat het verkeer daar het langzaamste reed en omdat er al een puntstuk klaar lag naast de overweg. (Mocht iemand dit weten, ik hoor het graag.)

Nadat een tijd lang al het treinverkeer via het midden- en inhaalspoor reed, verscheen er rond 10 voor half 8 voor het eerst een trein op het 'normale' spoor naar het zuiden. Het betrof de ontzettend smerige Lineas 186 258 met een volledig beladen containertrein. Dit moest de boosdoener zijn die het spoor anderhalf uur lang had geblokkeerd. Nadat de machinist nog even een sanitaire stop deed en de intercity de volgende sectie had verlaten (niet de IC op de foto), vervolgde de trein zijn weg naar Roosendaal.

Een laatst opvallend detail: alle wagens in de trein zijn van het Poolse PKP Cargo.

Almost every day we get one or two or three Northern flicker woodpeckers at our feeder. But it is not every day that any other woodpecker visits. This one, a downy woodpecker, came a few days ago and stayed only ten minutes.

Paradigm Air Operators used the aircraft mainly for sports-charter flights for professional teams like the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers baseball teams, and the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs National hockey teams.

In the dingey wet snow this morning, a Northern flicker was checking out our usually-full suet feeder, and finding nothing.

This Southern Roadcraft AC Cobra Replica, ANT 227A, was manufactured in 1979 and registered in Britain in 1998. Broadway 14.08.2022.

Just before sunset, a pair of flickers came by and, ignoring the fresh suet I have out, tucked into the holly berries at the bottom of the garden. This is the one less wary of being in the open.

Headed out of Love Field to Moses Lake (KMWH).

In 1985, the chassis of APP 264K was fitted with new Plaxton Paramount coachwork for Stevenson, Uttoxeter, where it was reregistered AEH 227A and allocated fleet no. 1.

This was my mother's Christmas cactus. She kept it alive from December 1943 (when her grandmother gave it to her on her wedding day) until she died in 2006.

Like my siblings, I had a clone of it, from "slips" she gave us over the years. But, when she died, I also inherited her own plant, the one my great-grandmother had given her seventy-six years ago. And it still blooms every Christmas. Or, as my mother used to say, every year on her wedding anniversary.

Right on time again this year.
