I didn't expect to find many birds above the tree line in the mountains (over 11,000 ft), but there were occasional small, gray birds at 14,000 feet on both Pike's Peak and Mount Evans, Colorado.
American Pipits spend the summer on the barren peaks and are in the lower elevations during the spring and fall. There are three subspecies/varieties of American Pipits, and they vary a bit in their appearance. This is a Rocky Mountain variety of American Pipit (Anthus rubescens alticola), in its breeding plumage. In flight, the white edges of its tail are quite prominent.

Once the desired duo departed Bellevue the sun was just hanging to high to break the clouds but at the last two locations the sun peaked down far enough to provide nice backlight in the final stretch into Hartland yard.

Neben den (überwiegend) lokbespannten Leistungen nach Pocinho gibt es im Douro-Tal auch noch zusätzliche Nahverkehrszüge ab Régua Richtung Porto. Hierbei kommen die schon seit etlichen Jahren von der spanischen Renfe angemieteten Triebwagen der Baureihe 592 zum Einsatz. 592 227 war am 12.10.2022 als R 4102 von Régua nach Marco de Canaveses unterwegs. Dort besteht dann Anschluss an die S-Bahn nach Porto. Das Bild zeigt ihn zwischen Aregos und Mosteiro.
