Durban ( früher Port Natal) ist eine Großstadt am Indischen Ozean an der Ostküste Südafrikas. Mit umliegenden Orten bildet sie die Metropolgemeinde eThekwini. Mit über 3,9 Millionen Einwohnern nach der Volkszählung von 2011 ist eThekwini die größte Stadt der Provinz KwaZulu-Natal und nach Johannesburg und Kapstadt die drittgrößte Stadt Südafrikas; Durban selbst hatte 595.061 Einwohner.
Durban ist eine bedeutende Industrie- und Hafenstadt mit dem größten Hafen Afrikas und aufgrund der Strände und des subtropischen Klimas ein vielbesuchtes Urlaubszentrum des Landes.

Première photo pour le nouveau parisien que je suis depuis aujourd'hui avec la BB 22387 à Paris-Nord qui s’apprête à démarrer en direction de St Quentin lors de la pointe du soir..
Du temps où la BB 22387 était encore en service, pour le compte de Naviland, à l'époque du ME120 des samedis midi reliant Strasbourg au Havre. Le ME120 52764 Strasbourg-Bobigny traverse la gare de Lutzelbourg.

Lundi 03 août 1998, à quelques jours de mes 18 ans et en pleines vacances scolaires, je décide d'aller voir mes grands-parents sur la journée à Cholet, dans le Maine et Loire. Pour changer du TGV, et me faire plaisir, je décide d'emprunter l'express 3859 au départ de Paris Vaugirard à 8h56 à destination de Nantes. Arrivée prévue à Angers St Laud à 11h56, ou je prendrai ma correspondance pour Cholet à 12h06 (encore en EAD à l'époque). Pour la petite histoire, je n’ai jamais quitté Paris, car par suite d’un incident, dont je n'ai plus la cause, le 3859 est resté à quai. Ce que je me souviens bien cependant, c'est que l'engin titulaire était la BB 22387, encore à Rennes à l'époque...
Pour en revenir à la photo, je prends donc mon train en gare de Trappes (lieu où j'habitais à ce moment-là) pour Montparnasse, sans doute en Z 5300 à l'époque. Notre train rentre en gare de Versailles Chantiers et là ne fut pas ma surprise de voir une BB 26000 trois feux au signal ( rare à l’époque chez nous), sous le poste, coté GC. Ayant toujours mon appareil photo avec moi, ni une ni deux je fonce sur le quai en face pour immortaliser la scène, malgré un brouillard persistant. Belle surprise, il s'agit de la BB 26227 "fraîchement" repeinte en livrée multiservices. A la découverte du chargement, deuxième surprise, il s'agit de la livraison du métro de Londres, en cours d’acheminement, sans doute pour le Havre.
Ce jour-là, je n'ai jamais rejoint Cholet, mais ce fut l'occasion de faire un convoi insolite. A l'époque, pas d'internet, pas d'infos, juste le coup de chance... +

The River Witham is a river almost entirely in the county of Lincolnshire in the east of England. It rises south of Grantham close to South Witham, passes Lincoln and at Boston, flows into The Haven, a tidal arm of The Wash, near RSPB Frampton Marsh. The name "Witham" seems to be extremely old and of unknown origin. Archaeological and documentary evidence shows the importance of the Witham as a navigation from the Iron Age onwards. From Roman times it was navigable to Lincoln, from where the Fossdyke was constructed to link it to the River Trent. The mouth of the river moved in 1014 following severe flooding, and Boston became important as a port.
From 1142 onwards, sluices were constructed to prevent flooding by the sea, and this culminated in the Great Sluice, which was constructed in 1766. It maintained river levels above Boston, and helped to scour the channel below it. The land through which the lower river runs has been the subject of much land drainage, and many drains are connected to the Witham by flood doors, which block them off if river levels rise rapidly. The river is navigable from Brayford Pool in Lincoln to Boston, with Locks only in Lincoln, at Bardney and at the Grand Sluice. Passage through the Grand Sluice lock is restricted to short periods when the tidal levels are suitable. The river provides access for boaters to the Witham Navigable Drains, to the north of Boston, and to the South Forty-Foot Drain to the south, which was reopened as part of the Fens Waterways Link, a project to link the river to the River Nene near Peterborough. From Brayford Pool, the Fossdyke Navigation still links to the Trent.

Ce jour là, il faisait beau mais très chaud (35 °C), pas mal de circulations ont été perturbé, c'est aussi ce qui explique la porte ouverte de la BB 22387.
