"It’s been a very special grace being brought up in a place like Fatima, where Our Lady of Fatima appeared. Everyone that has been at Fatima has surely felt the motherly atmosphere and security, safety, in that place because, well, that's what it was all about: Our Lady being made known by three little humble children."

Panorama of ships present on Belfast Lough during 2 June 1944. Prominent are the USS Arkansas (BB-33) on the left and the USS Texas to its right. Between and beyond them is probably the supply ship USS Aerial (AF-22). From those remaining its difficult to identify specific vessels. However, on close examination of the scanned print the camouflage pattern of HMS Black Prince is discernable. The ship located at the bottom right point of the watermark star.

On 3 June the War Diary of the USS Arkansas (BB-33) recorded the following American ships present n Belfast Lough: The USS Nevada (BB-36), USS Texas (BB-35), USS Quincy (CA-71), USS Tuscaloosa (CA-37). The Buckley-class destroyers, USS Amesbury (DE-66) Blessman (DE-69) and Bunch (DE-694). The Gleaves-class destroyers USS Butler (DD-636), Gherardi (DD-637), Glennon, (DD-620), Herndon, (DD-638), Jeffers (DD-621), Plunkett (DD-431), and Shubrick (DD-639). The Benson-class destroyer USS Murphy (DD-603) and the Omaha-class light cruiser USS Marblehead (CL-12). Lastly the USS Aerial (AF-22) and USS Aucilla (AO-56) were two supply & support vessels present. Deck logs for the USS Texas also record the USAT Thomas Barry, USAT Seatrain Lakenhurst and MV Britannic as being present.

In addition to the American vessels the Royal Navy cruisers HMS Glasgow, HMS Black Prince, HMS Bellona, HMS Hawkins and HMS Enterprise were present while lastly the French cruisers George Leygues and Montcalm were also part of the assembled force

In the early hours of 3 June, the Arkansas recorded that it was underway at 02:30 at a standard speed of 15 knots. Accompanied by the Texas, Nevada, Montcalm, and Georges Leygues, with the Jeffers ,Glennon, Gherardi, Plunkett, Blessman, and Amesbury acting as escorts. By 05:28 the ships were 15 miles off St Johns lighthouse and by 15:31 were passing South Bishop Lighthouse off the Welsh coast.

Not all of the ships assembled on 2 June participated in D-Day. USS Ariel, Aucilla and Marblehead remained at Belfast Lough until 6 June before departing as part of convoy UCT-25 for the US.

From the ships that left Belfast Lough, and participated in support of the landings, the USS Glennon struck a mine on 8 June and the following day targeted by German artillery before finally sinking on 10 June with 25 men lost and 38 wounded.

Wear Christmas socks.

The activity for Day 22 from our Advent calendar.

I needed another activity that would take almost no time from me. The Dollar Spot at Target to the rescue! Found some Christmas socks, put them under the tree, and put this activity in the Advent calendar. Tiny Dancer was not interest in wearing his, but Little Buddha was thrilled. He loves accessories!
