Unfortunately on the morning of 15th October disaster struck Flight Sgt. R.D. Williams who was making a single-engined approach to Bodney in Ventura AE 760. Shortly after the aircraft had crossed the Swaffham road, near Hilborough, it stalled, dived into the ground and burst into flames killing all on board. The complete destruction of this aircraft meant that it was impossible to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.

Del autor de la fotografía: "Regresabàmos de un relevo de la FTA en Chipre (UNFICYP),se hacian tres vuelos por cada FTA, volando la ultima parte de la ruta ,habiendo dejado el Mar Mediterraneo ,ingresando a Marruecos por la posicion BERUM,...FES-MARRAKECH-AGADIR-LANZAROTE-ISLA DE SAL,mateniamos FL 380 (RVSM aprobado por ser aeronave del estado)con Mach .80,tenìa a la vista a unas 20 milllas en la puntera de plano derecho a la isla Gran Canaria,la mayor de todas las del archipielago.
Como habia operado desde 1992 a 1995 en la Base Aerea de Gando para la operacion NON STOP de los relevos del BEA en Croacia (UNPROFOR) y las FTA en Chipre (UNFICYP) conocìa muy bien sus instalaciones,repasaba mentalmente sus entradas y salidas por instrumento,sus dos pistas 03-21 R/L,los cables para frenado para los EF-18 en la 03 R ,los bunquers,el edificio de Operaciones,Estafeta y su gran plataforma,alojamientos,talleres.
Tambien recreaba mi vista con la geografia agreste y volcanica de la isla,las playas del sur,Playa del Ingles,Maspalomas y su faro,....Las Canteras en el centro la ciudad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria,el Club Nautico,Los Bardinos,el puerto,el Pico de las Nieves...las plantaciones de tomates bajo plastico y los generadores eolicos a 10 millas nauticas de la cabecera 03 L,la que tiene procedimiento con ILS.

Fuerza Aerea Argentina,muy buenas ,pues si....solicitamos colaboracion para ejercitacion de interceptacion con PAC de Halcones del Ala 46 operando al Este de su track.
Operaciones-FAG 065,autorizado y los esperamos,hace 5 minutos pasamos por su lateral,mantengo 380,.80 de Mach,estelando,1/8 de Stratus Cumulus a FL 350, sin turbulencia.
Aparecieron desde la izquierda,se separaron,cada uno se formó al lado de cada plano,cumplian con las ROE,uno se retrasó y el otro examinó al avion desde abajo y arriba,todo en silencio de radio las tres aeronaves...luego de acompañarnos unos pocos minutos más cumpliendo varias veces los mismos procedimientos,rompieron a la izquierda y en descenso se fueron al aterrizaje....nosotros en minutos más abandonamos territorio español de ultramar e ingresamos al control de la Republica de Cabo Verde,más precisamente SAL CONTROL,nuestro arribo para repostaje de combustible estaba previsto en el Aeropuerto Internacional Amilcar Cabral de la Isla de Sal."

Storage under the rear seats are specifically designed to hold digital devices so they won’t slide out, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard and the video from the rear view camera is akin to gaming graphics. While backing up I felt like I was intriguingly watching myself from the outside. Designer door panels, dual, integrated exhausts tips, standard panoramic sunroof, slick 20” and 21” alloy rims (especially the 21” R-Design), a chin spoiler and LED headlights cued with the outline of Thor’s Hammer complete the exterior elements of the XC60.

21 Squadron were flying Lockheed Ventura’s at this time. I can find no record of a loss on the Lost Bombers web-site, and the RAF fighter command logs don’t list any bomber escort missions, only a special escort mission in which a Mustang was lost SW of the Scillies.
This site gives an operational history of the Lockheed Ventura in the RAF, but records nothing for this period. A read through will confirm that the Ventura’s, used as medium day-light bombers, required a substantial fighter escort if they were to stand any chance of getting back - another one of those bureaucratic wastes of human lives “justified“ as a necessity of war (in my opinion).

Operaciones-FAG 065,autorizado y los esperamos,hace 5 minutos pasamos por su lateral,mantengo 380,.80 de Mach,estelando,1/8 de Stratus Cumulus a FL 350, sin turbulencia.
Aparecieron desde la izquierda,se separaron,cada uno se formó al lado de cada plano,cumplian con las ROE,uno se retrasó y el otro examinó al avion desde abajo y arriba,todo en silencio de radio las tres aeronaves...luego de acompañarnos unos pocos minutos más cumpliendo varias veces los mismos procedimientos,rompieron a la izquierda y en descenso se fueron al aterrizaje....nosotros en minutos más abandonamos territorio español de ultramar e ingresamos al control de la Republica de Cabo Verde,más precisamente SAL CONTROL,nuestro arribo para repostaje de combustible estaba previsto en el Aeropuerto Internacional Amilcar Cabral de la Isla de Sal."
