Having her hearing test done

Locomotive #201 is a model RSD-4 constructed by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) in 1951. This road locomotive has 1,600 horsepower, is geared for a top speed of 60 miles per hour, and has a total weight of 286,000 pounds. It is fully operational and often pulls excursion trains on the Museum's Snoqualmie Valley Railroad.

The 201 is a diesel-electric locomotive: a diesel engine turns an electric generator and electric motors turn each axle. It has an air compressor to supply air for the air brake system and seating for two crew members.

The Alco RSD-4 was a short-lived production model and the 201 is the last surviving unit. The prime mover is a 12 cylinder ALCO 244 four stroke diesel. Notable in this design is the dry engine block. Coolant is plumbed to each cylinder while the engine block remains dry.

Derby Day again! I'm a little sad...no more till February! But this is what derby looks like from the suicide seats pretty often. It's a little more challenging to keep track of what's happening on the track, it's a blur of bright colors whizzing by. Tonight more so than others... First bout was our B travel team (Fargo Furies) against Forx Rollers. This shot was taken during that bout - final score, I didn't catch, but we won. 2nd bout was insanity. Our A Travel Team (Northern Pains) played their little hearts out against Minnesota Rollergirls Rockits, but they literally schooled FMDG on derby. Final score on that one was us:17, them: 211. Yep. They trounced us. Hardcore. But the girls are getting lessons from them today, so I look forward to seeing what they picked up and will employ in the next bout! Thank you FMDG for yet another amazing night of derby! See you in February!

Took a Sunday morning drive down to Cupertino to pick up Julian and bring him home for the night. He usually takes the coach up on Fridays and down again on Mondays, but he stayed for the Great America trip for the interns yesterday. I have absolutely NO problem doing the drive and back if it means a little extra time spent with my son :)
