The fundraiser was to help re-establish the Young Patriot Organization in the 21st Century.

The Young Patriots were a group of poor southern migrants in 1960's Chicago who were part of a revolutionary alliance with the Young Lords Organization (a Puerto Rican group) and the Black Panther Party (a Black organization). Together they formed the original Rainbow Coalition. Soon afterward Rising Up Angry, a working class white Chicago organization also joined.

Bill Clinton spoke at Toledo's Waite Senior High School on September 27th, 2016. President Clinton promoted Hillary Clinton as someone who as president would govern through empowerment, not resentment. He provided a different perspective on the trade deals that have fueled much of Republican Donald Trump’s appeal in Ohio. The 42nd president spoke to an estimated 800 supporters inside the gymnasium of Waite High School, with many local Democratic elected officials present. As it was National Voter Registration Day, he urged people to register to vote and to remind family and friends of the Oct. 11 deadline.

“We‘ve got a chance to do something together where nobody is left out and left behind. We need to go seize it, and it all starts in Ohio by registering and voting,” Mr. Clinton said.

RIP, Mrs. Sandwich.

I was surprised at how shocked people were but then I remember Reagan also getting elected when many thought it was not possible. So very disappointed indeed but shocked, not so much.

I spoke with one young woman who said this was the first election she could vote in. I gave her my condolences for such a disappointing first time and said don't give up voting.

M and I voted on Tuesday (the 25th), the earliest we could. (Texas didn't open early voting until the 24th, a day that M worked all day.) It's a great way to avoid lines and craziness on "Election Day" -- a misnomer, since early voting exists and is growing more popular.

When I put my ballot through the machine, the counter read "927", which I thought was a pretty good number for just one day of voting at a single polling place two weeks before the election ends.
