Whoo hoo, hubby persuaded me to get a new P&S camera today while we were shopping and I was looking at all the options and umming and ahhing!!
So I will have to do some experimenting - it's a Canon PowerShot SX150 - I really hope it lives up to the salesman's description! (This was taken with my existing Nikon Coolpix S3100 with a Little Big Shot Macro lens attached)

Frogmore House is a 17th-century country house standing at the centre of the Frogmore Estate, amongst beautiful gardens, about a half a mile south of Windsor Castle in the Home Park at Windsor in the English county of Berkshire. It is a Grade I listed building.

LE JARDIN DES INSECTES RÉALISATION : Province de Hainaut, Belgique
Avec cette œuvre, la province de Hainaut, en Belgique, par son Département des espaces verts (DEV), souhaite démontrer l’intérêt qu’elle porte à son environnement. Dans un souci de sauvegarde de la biodiversité, la province a entrepris d’intégrer un plan de lutte contre l’utilisation des pesticides. Il s’agit du Plan Maya, qui vise à tenter le maximum pour conserver le patrimoine végétal et animal de la province.
Les efforts du DEV ne portent pas uniquement sur la limite des interventions phytopharmaceutiques. La province s’est également engagée à protéger et à favoriser la prolifération des insectes des milieux ruraux et urbains en intensifiant la plantation d’espèces mellifères et en installant des ruchers dans ses espaces verts.
Voilà donc pourquoi, afin de représenter les actions de la province et de refléter notre culture nationale, le DEV a créé des structures tridimensionnelles mettant en vedette un jardin d’insectes.
Plus du tiers des fruits et légumes que nous mangeons proviennent d’un événement de pollinisation impliquant un animal, qu’il soit insecte, oiseau ou autre. Dans la nature, près de 70 à 90 % de la reproduction des plantes à fleurs reposerait, en tout ou en partie, sur des animaux pollinisateurs.
Qui l’aurait cru?
Le Plan Maya a été créé en Belgique pour assurer la survie des abeilles et des insectes butineurs, essentiels à la survie de nombreuses espèces végétales. Dans les villages, on installe des ruches, on plante des arbres et des végétaux mellifères (dont le pollen permet de produire du miel) et on laisse ensuite la nature poursuivre le travail.

Snorkeling of Miramar Beach is tiring. Once you work past the surf, you have to swim out 400 meters before the depth (4-5 meters) and the bottom starts to get interesting. Good reason to nap in the sun afterwards, which this snorkeling gal is doing beautifully.
Kamehameha Day, celebrated on June 11, is a Hawaii state holiday celebrating King Kamehameha. It was established by royal decree on December 22, 1871 by King Kamehameha V as a national holiday. Kamehameha Day was created to honor the memory of Kamehameha, the king’s great grandfather, who united the Hawaiian Islands in 1810 and became Hawai‘i’s first king. The first celebration occurred on June 11, 1872.
"A floral parade is held annually at various locations throughout the state of Hawaii. On the island of Oahu, the parade runs from ʻIolani Palace in downtown Honolulu past Honolulu Harbor and the Prince Kūhiō Federal Building through Kakaʻako, Ala Moana and Waikīkī, ending at Kapiʻolani Park. June 11 is also the anniversary of the dedication of Kapiʻolani Park. The floral parade features local marching bands — including the Royal Hawaiian Band (the oldest municipal band in the United States) — and artistically designed floats using native flowers and plants. Many local companies enter floats for their employees.
A favorite floral parade feature is the traditional royal paʻu riders. They represent a royal court led by a queen on horseback, followed by princesses representing the eight major islands of Hawaiʻi and Molokini. Each princess is attended by paʻu ladies in waiting. Paʻu women are dressed in colorful and elegant 19th century riding gowns accented with lei and other floral arrangements." Wikipedia.
There is an annual Lei Draping ceremony
in which the Kamehameha Statue in front of Aliʻiolani Hale and ʻIolani Palace on King Street in downtown Honolulu is draped in long strands of lei.

今宮戎 えべっさん 福娘 2013 フォトギャラリー
今年は、申し込み2978人の中から50人の高倍率に選ばれた第61代の福娘の皆さん。
今宮戎でご奉仕するのは、餅まき行事、舞楽奉納式、神社授与所で笹の授与など、福娘がお揃いの着物の上に千早を着用し、頭には金の烏帽子でご奉仕を行う。
福娘さんは女子アナや芸能方面からも注目されているそうです。
福娘やエビス娘に選ばれると、就職や縁談に有利と言われていて、資格は満18～23歳（高校生は除く）の未婚女性で書類審査と3度の面接審査で選ばれる。
「商売繁盛で笹もってこい！年のはじめのえべっさん！」のお囃子がミニマルに流れ続ける。
本殿では、福娘さんと飾りつけを選別しながら笹に付けていってくれます。
福娘は美人コンテストではなく、験担ぎに来る参拝者とのわずかなやりとりで「良い年になりそう」という気分に浸ってもらうのが役目。「だから美しさより、周りの人を幸せにする雰囲気をまとっていることが大事」とのこと。
毎年1月９日の「宵えびす」、１０日の「本えびす」、１１日の「残り福」と、３日間賑やかに行われている。
