Desde hace miles de años y hasta la actualidad, ha habido siempre asentamientos humanos en la región. Algunas civilizaciones antiguas florecieron aquÃ, como la hitita, y otras procedieron de civilizaciones europeas o de otras regiones de Asia Menor; todas ellas han dejado su huella cultural en Capadocia.
Las caracterÃsticas geológicas del lugar han dado pie a que sus paisajes se describan a menudo como paisajes lunares. La tierra del lugar, llamada toba calcárea, ha adquirido formas caprichosas tras millones de años de erosión y es lo suficientemente débil para permitir que el ser humano construya sus moradas escarbando en la roca en vez de erigir edificios. De esta forma, los paisajes lunares están llenos de cavernas, naturales y artificiales, muchas de las cuales continúan habitadas.
La situación geográfica de Capadocia la hizo encrucijada de rutas comerciales durante siglos; también objeto de continuas invasiones. Los habitantes de la región construyeron refugios subterráneos (ejemplos que pueden ser visitados son las ciudades de Kaymaklı y Derinkuyu), donde ciudades enteras podÃan refugiarse en el subsuelo y subsistir durante muchos meses sin arriesgarse al exterior. Estas ciudades subterráneas estaban construidas de varios niveles (la ciudad de Kaymaklı tiene nueve niveles subterráneos, aunque solamente cuatro están abiertos al turismo: el resto están reservados para investigación arqueológica y antropológica) y equipadas con respiraderos, caballerizas, panaderÃas, pozos de agua y lo necesario para albergar poblaciones que podÃan llegar hasta 20 000 habitantes. Cuando estas ciudades subterráneas fueron usadas durante el cristianismo bizantino, algunas cámaras fueron adaptadas como templos y decoradas con iconografÃas en las paredes.

Los fuegos artificiales de Parla. Este año decidi irme lejos de donde se hacian para sacar tomas diferentes. Y la verdad es que no me disgusto el resultado. Espero que a vosotros tambien os guste.

I had to put an 8-8-08 shot up this evening in celebration of the lucky day celebrated around the world. I also want to wish all of the United States Olympians good luck in their endeavors.
I have a funny story about this shot. My dad and I were at Lakeview Cemetery today. As soon as I got out of my car for the first time today I said to my dad, "Hey, I need to find a grave of an individual that was either born or had died in 1888 so I can get a shot to post to Flickr this evening for the special day." My dad looked down and the very first grave he looked at had the date I was looking for. The funnier thing is that we never saw another grave with the date all afternoon. Creepy story huh?!?!?
