This locomotive was sold to Waterman Railways in September 1993 for preservation but after asbestos removal at M.C.Metals in Glasgow Waterman Railways sold it on to the Yeovil Railway Centre but before the sale was completed Direct Rail Services stepped in and bought the loco in September 1997. It was soon moved to RFS Industries at Doncaster and overhauled to become DRS no. 20 312 and remains in service to this day.

Thank you for 3.6 million views in two years 2017 to 2019
The above image is a scan from an original Kodachrome™ slide. The default size is 2000 x 1250 pixels, so clicking on the photo will enlarge it for better viewing.
The original image comes from my slide collection, amassed over the past 40+ years. They are a combination of my own photographs and ones acquired over those years.
I created this Photostream in 2017 for the purpose of holding my slide collection as an archive, as otherwise they would just remain in binders and boxes, not being enjoyed by anyone, myself included.
Comments are welcome.

A late evening view of 20043 leading 20006 approaching Lenton North Junction with a train of loaded 24 ton unfitted coal hoppers from one of the Lean Valley collieries, 5th April 1978.
Locomotive History
20043 was originally D8043 and was built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry, entering traffic in November 1959, allocated to Devons Road MPD in Bow, London for cross-London transfer freight duties. On the closure of Devons Road in 1962 it transferred to Willesden. In March 1966 it transferred to Bescot and was one of a small batch of class 20’s allocated to Bescot MPD which at its peak in 1967 consisted of fifteen class 20’s (D8040 – D8044, D8134 – D8143). In January 1969 it transferred to Toton where it remained until October 1981 when it was stored along with a large number of Toton’s vacuum braked class 20 fleet due to the reduction in coal traffic from pit closures and the continued introduction of air braked MGR coal wagons. 20043 was re-instated in March 1982 and transferred to Scotland (Eastfield) only to be stored again in August 1982. Following air brake and slow speed control fitment to enable it to operate MGR coal duties it was reinstated, allocated to Eastfield in January 1983. Through out the rest of its career it was regularly transferred first to Tinsley in July 1985, followed by Immingham in July 1987, Toton in January 1989 and finally Thornaby in September 1990. It was withdrawn in July 1991 and broken up by MC Metals, Glasgow during April 1995. 20006 is one of the original batch of class 20 locomotives from 1957and was originally D8006. Withdrawal came in October 1990 and it was broken up by MC Metals, Glasgow in June 1991.

+++ Ganz frisch vom Chip: UEF-Sonderzug im BR 187-Sandwich - mit (fast) noch fabrikneuer 187 312 +++

The Boeing Collection
From a collection of some 500 Boeing slides that I've had scanned from my archives. Hope they will provide some enjoyment and nostalgia from a bygone age. This was an early evening shot and the light was low. The aircraft is smoking nicely :)
An evening study of exotic visitor Montana Austria Boeing 707 OE-IDA, seen lifting off from runway 10R at London Heathrow on Sudan Airways flight SD113 - making a nice change from the regular ST-AFA & ST-AFB.
OE-IDA c/n 20043 - Boeing 707-396C was delivered new to Wardair Canada in Mar 1969 as CF-ZYP, after originally being allocated to Quebecair as CF-QBG (ntu). All Canadian aircraft were re-registered as C- sometime in the late 1970s, and the aircraft became C-FZYP. After nine years of service, the aircraft was sold off when Wardair purchased their DC-10s. The aircraft became OE-IDA with Montana Austria in Dec 1978 - this being their third 707 and first of the longer bodied Series 300 rather than the short-bodied OE-IRA and OE-INA which were bought from Qantas. The aircraft flew with Montana for just three years, including a couple of short leases to Sudan Airways [as in my shot] and Nigeria Airways, before being seized by the US Justice Department and stored at Davis Monthan AFB in 1981. In 1985, the aircraft was bought by the USAF and became C-137C 85-6973. In 2003, it was converted to an E-8C and re-serialled 00-2000 and is still flying well into the 21st century!
The Northrop Grumman E-8 Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) is a United States Air Force airborne ground surveillance, battle management and command and control aircraft. It tracks ground vehicles and some aircraft, collects imagery, and relays tactical pictures to ground and air theater commanders. The aircraft is operated by both active duty U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard units. The E-8C is an aircraft modified from the Boeing 707-300 series commercial airliner. The E-8 carries specialised radar, communications, operations and control subsystems.
