59 Chevy Impala..

A very interesting and unique car was at the car show the other day. it was a 1959 Chevy Impala Low Rider transformer car. After speaking with the owner I found out he had spent 70.000.00 in parts and countless hours of labor building this from the frame up.

the hydraulics in this car were crazy. It would lift like you see it in this photo and then lower all done with a remote control from outside the car.

Thank you for visiting for marking my photo as a favorite and for the kind comments,

Krishnarajapuram's WPD-4 20042 running in LHF and on dynamic braking, with its headlights on as it had just cleared the small tunnel en route, passes by the beautiful and serene outskirts of Thippasandra with Mangaluru bound Gomteshwara express from Yesvantapur.

41 of these locomotives were supplied to the Great Indian Peninsula Railway in 1928 for use on the Bombay-Poona section for heavy freights. Originally class EF/1, the first few were made by the Swiss Locomotive Works (SLM Winterthur), and more by the Vulcan Foundry (with electricals from Metropolitan Vickers). They had four 650 hp motors (total power often quoted as 2610hp), driving two three-axle bogies through connecting rods.

Locally they were known as "khekda" ("crab"). They made a curious moaning sound when at rest, and while on the run an unusual swishing sound from the link motion could be heard.

Their unusual features included an articulated body which made them ideal for use in the heavily curved ghat sections. They also featured regenerative braking (Newport-Shildon, UK). They were known for their superior tractive characteristics on the ghat sections; however, the exposed link mechanism had to be oiled very frequently in all kinds of weather.

They were later used as bankers on the Karjat-Lonavla section, and remained in regular shunting duties until 1992. The remaining ones of this class are at the Wadi Bunder locomotive shed. The first WCG-1 locomotive was named "Sir Leslie Wilson".

Quite remarkably, the leading locomotive is fast approaching six decades of mainline service, being introduced to BR in November 1959 as D8042.

20 042 pauses at Telford Central with a DMU on the 1458 Wolverhampton -

Shrewsbury train on Friday 6th January 1987.

I'm not sure why the chopper ended up on the front. All I know is that the DMU left Wolves, stopping almost immediately, before reversing back into the station & after a short delay we were on our way again with something much noiser on the front!

The English Electric Type 1 entered service as D8042 in November 1959 & was still in service with DRS on the autumn 2017 RHTT services.

The terminally ill have been put out in the cold in this view taken at Scunthorpe Frodingham Depot on New Years Day 1993. The line up comprises 08 508 (Wdn 01/10/1991), 20 025 (Wdn 09/09/1991), 20 176 (Wdn 21/10/1991), 20 061 (Wdn 21/01/1991), 20 043 (Wdn 27/06/1991) and finally 20 042 (Wdn 27/06/1991). All bar one went to the breakers and are no longer with us. The exception being the last one in the line 20 042. This locomotive was sold to Waterman Railways in September 1993 for preservation but after asbestos removal at M.C.Metals in Glasgow Waterman Railways sold it on to the Yeovil Railway Centre but before the sale was completed Direct Rail Services stepped in and bought the loco in September 1997. It was soon moved to RFS Industries at Doncaster and overhauled to become DRS no. 20 312 and remains in service to this day.

This is a pretty ordinary shot of a pair of Class 20 locomotives at Derby on Tuesday 31st July 1973. No. 8042 is easy enough to identify from the photo, but the number of her sister is illegible. However, my spotting notes for the day show 8042 adjacent to 8194 (in two places) so I'm confident that the other's identity has been established. At this stage in my spotting career Class 20s would still have seemed very exotic indeed, based as I was in the West Country. I also visited Toton that day to see … yes - you've guessed it - Class 44s. The same spotting notes list numbers 2, 4 and 8, which were all "cops".

Following a little bit of research I'm reasonably sure that the signal box visible on the left is Engine Sidings No. 2 box, which I believe is long gone now.
