School Library Journal's "Best Books" cover from December 2003 was illustrated by Mordecai Gerstein.
Modern block houses in the city center. / Modern lakótelep a belvárosban.
Le Havre, Normandy, France - pictures taken during a walking tour in the city in April 2003. As I often did, I added a day to my business trip so that air fare would be cheaper for the company (by adding a Saturday night to the trip), and I used it to take a train to visit two towns in Normandy.
Le Havre, kikötőváros a Szajna torkolatában Normandiában, Franciaországban. 2003.
Le Havre is situated on the right bank of the estuary of the river Seine on the English Channel, remains deeply influenced by its employment and maritime traditions. Its port is the second largest in France, for total traffic, and the largest French container port. The name Le Havre means 'the harbour' or 'the port'. After the 1944 bombings the firm of Auguste Perret began to rebuild the city in concrete. The oil, chemical, and automotive industries were dynamic during the Trente Glorieuses (postwar boom) but the 1970s marked the end of the golden age of ocean liners and the beginning of the economic crisis: the population declined, unemployment increased and remains at a high level today. I personally felt inclined to visit the place for a Michel Quoist roman that takes place here and that I read as a teenager.
Shots taken in the Guinness Factory in Belfast where we were filming one of our final year films as part of the BA in Film Studies at Queen's University Belfast. Director on this one was Brendan Mullin.
The lighting was very poor, and I clearly had my settings all wrong, so everything very underexposed. Posting for posterity.
There's a little hook in there to attach an actual brussel sprout. This was my junior year, but lord if I remember which semester. Probably the first? We'll never know. In the move, some old stuff turned up, which i'm slowly documenting.
