Stanier 5MT 44871 makes it's way through a tunnel of trees as it heads towards Wolsingham and eventually Stanhope with "The Railway 200 Special" tour.
A little earlier in the trip the train had passed over part of the original Stockton and Darlington Railway route of 1825 which was opened exactly 200 years ago on the 27th September. Celebrations have been held over the weekend including a recreation of the first train over the route.
This section of the line however is a relative newcomer having opened in 1847 as far as Frosterley, eventually reaching Stanhope in 1862.

I was going to do the numbers to outline today's 200 shot milestone using wire wool but I spotted the barbed wire on top of the kitchen cupboard, so decided to torture my hands for half an hour trying to manipulate it into the correct shape.
Looks more like zoo than I would have liked but the barbed wire fire zoo people might come knocking on my door for a commission now.

So I work in retail and during the holidays while people can be sweet, they can also be heartless monsters. So I was wonderfully surprised today when this incredible woman walked up to many of the registers at work and swiped her debit card for other people's transactions. The first was a coworker of mine, she came up and said "hello! this one is on me!", swiped and was gone. My coworker looked totally confused and when the lady walked away I asked if they were friends and she said she didn't know her at all. Then she kept going. She did it again and again, for small and large transactions. Sometimes just a few dollars, and other times hundreds. After she swiped the card the person would look at her, extremely confused and she would simply say "merry christmas!" with a giant smile on her face followed by a long hug. It was really sweet and tugged on my heart strings. She said she does it every year and that really gave my retail experience a wonderful silver lining. The holiday spirit still exists :')
Have a lovely weekend!
