The Netherlands - Westzaan

Late afternoon aerial view on a newly built windmill De Veldmuis in the village Westzaan. Here stood once an older version of De Veldmuis (Field Mouse); a small sawmill where wooden strips (so called feathers) were produced to function as dividers in crates or as fillers of wooden flooring. The ditch next to the mill is named after these feathers: Veerzagersloot. But the oldest version of De Veldmuis was situated in the Westzijderveld, east of the village (see background). That mill made sniff, out of tobacco stems. This new mill functions as a windmill, an energy supply for the mansion underneath. The work on the mill is not yet finished. In the background Zaanstad and Westzijderveld are visible. Image made with kite and camera (attached to the kite's line). © Tom Kisjes

2 Days of climbing, 2 whole days to reach the top of where we thought was the smoothest spot of the CIS CP. The LAAT couldn’t transport us up because they would have been detected. Our mission was to retrieve a Force Crystal for our beloved Chancellor. The intentions he had for it were a secret, we were just troopers, troopers that did the dirty work.

We arrived at the planned spot and started to dig a tunnel through snow, ice and the outer core of the CP titanium plated plastoid walls. Atom was the first one to go down, I immediately followed him and saw that 2 droid commandos were being burned by Atoms flamethrower; I put some shots in the fireball without great effect.

Now, 2 droid commandos down, who know how many more were still out there. We had our plan, and immediately started to match through the corridors, we didn’t had much time, we had to find that force crystal.

A "compact" camera (roughly as large as a DSLR) with a fast zoom lens and a 2/3" sensor.

The lens diameter is such that the sensor uses only the area near the central axis, so the optical quality is very high.

The sensor quality does not appear to match the that of the glass, as far as I can tell.

Ergonomics are excellent. Zoom, manual focus and f-stop are operated by rings on the lens barrel. The focus ring notches into an AF and AF-Macro stop. The exposure time is set by a dial on the camera body. Mostly, and unusually for a compact camera, the photographer will not be choosing all settings in this way.

The flash can be used in either of two modes, either flashing directly forward (the fairly large distance from the lens should minimize the red-eye-occurrence, or tilted upwards and bouncing its light off the ceiling. I haven't tried the flash, so I don't know how well this works.

Shot with a Canon EOS600D and a Leitz-Summicron-R 50mm manual focusing lens.
