Sutherland is a historic county, registration county and lieutenancy area in the Highlands of Scotland. Its county town is Dornoch. Sutherland borders Caithness to the east, Ross-shire to the south and the Atlantic to the north and west.
In Gaelic, the area is referred to according to its traditional areas: Dùthaich MhicAoidh (or Dùthaich 'IcAoidh) in the northeast, Asainte (Assynt) in the west, and Cataibh in the east. Cataibh is also sometimes used to refer to the area as a whole.
The name Sutherland dates from the era of Norwegian Viking rule and settlement over much of the Highlands and Islands, under the rule of the jarl of Orkney. Although it contains some of the northernmost land in the island of Great Britain, it was called Suðrland ("southern land") from the standpoint of Orkney and Caithness.
The northwest corner of Sutherland, traditionally known as the Province of Strathnaver, was not incorporated into Sutherland until 1601. This was the home of the powerful and warlike Clan Mackay, and as such was named in Gaelic, Dùthaich 'Ic Aoidh, the Homeland of Mackay. Even today this part of Sutherland is known as Mackay Country, and, unlike other areas of Scotland where the names traditionally associated with the area have become diluted, there is still a preponderance of Mackays in the Dùthaich.
Like its southern neighbour Ross-shire, Sutherland has some of the most dramatic scenery in the whole of Europe, especially on its western fringe where the mountains meet the sea. These include high sea cliffs, and very old mountains composed of Precambrian and Cambrian rocks.
Much of the population is based in coastal towns, such as Helmsdale and Lochinver, which until very recently made much of their living from the rich fishing of the waters around the British Isles.
Much of Sutherland is poor relative to the rest of Scotland, with few job opportunities beyond government funded employment, agriculture and seasonal tourism.
Further education is provided by North Highland College, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands. The Ross House Campus in Dornoch was the first establishment in the United Kingdom to provide a degree in Golf management. The Burghfield House Campus, also in Dornoch, is a hotel school.
I'm so thankful to my mum and sister for growing such beautiful flowers in their gardens for me to photograph, there's been jokes going around that they're going to start charging me per upload LOL

La rue vide bourse Lyon5°
hier, je m'installe rue vide bourse tout au bas. Je croyais cette rue très peu fréquentée, erreur!!
Un étudiant qui qualifie la rue de plus belle de Lyon!!
Un monsieur passant avec un café dans une tasse et qui voulait son portrait (plaisanterie..), et nous avons bien ri.
une voiture qui voulait passer, et là miracle, le chauffeur m'a signalé que je n'avais pas à me déplacer car il rentrait chez lui juste avant mon installation.
Une grand mère qui habite la rue et accompagnée de son petit fils. Ils sont descendus me rejoindre, et nous avons dessiné ensembles. Nous occupions la totalité de la rue!! Elle m'a fait visité son merveilleux jardin.
Une autre dame qui est venue papoter, raconter ses pastels, ses fusains, ses crayons...
bref une journée de rencontre autour du papier, de la couleur, des crayons, des pinceaux...etc, et le tout en plein milieu de la rue. Il faut dire que cette rue mesure entre 1.5 mètres et 2 mètres...

The hills in San Francisco are quite amazing. A trek up California Ave will allow you to see this magnificent view. You can see part of the Bay Bridge in the center background.

The duck walked right in to the hairdressers, spent a few minutes there walking about , checking things out, then walked out and proceeded to Drycleaners next door, walked in, checked things out , then walked in the direction of a cobbler next door ...

I dismiss Barbra and Mary and KD and Michelle - none of them sound plausible for this line . Dido is a boarderline possibility.

... and then sure enough I remembered
and the song is not by a girl
and the line is a bit different but still some roots dyeing going on
and it is a rocking number from one of my favourites so I am happy, I am sure Glenda would love the tune
heavy rain overnight..... and we still have a lot of humidity...and more thundershowers to come...but I was pleased with the morning scenes in my walk today...especially my first photo of a hummingbird in action !
It's NOT especially good...but I GOT it ! ( and I was surprised, too...)

Got very special restriction about taking picturers at this concert. Must be 70 m distance from the stage. Hard and very difficult to get sometihng nice from this session.
