This 2-in-1 model includes two fun and interesting stacked block tower builds inspired by Jenga, the classic stacking game.
Build and Play:
A novice builder can assemble 54 individual blocks learning simple sideways building techniques using studs not on top. Each block faithfully recreates the original wooden block dimensions needed to play a stacking game. The blocks can be played as a game or stacked into a display piece.
Tumbling Tower Art Sculpture:
The second build is a tumbling tower sculpture, freezing a tower collapse in a dynamic moment. This magical illusion will challenge advanced builders with hidden pinning techniques.
Built with LEGO math and material science:
The tumbling tower uses bars (30374) inserted through headlight bricks (4070) to pin the blocks in place. Plates and 1x1 bricks provide the offsets when building sideways. The headlight brick side stud projects out beyond the base of the brick, so when two pieces face each other on one end and are placed back to front on another end of two blocks they force a slight curve, making the model bend.
The transparent pieces are molded with the new transparent ABS. The original cellulose acetate and polycarbonate parts are incredibly stiff and clutch weld together. The new ABS is more pliable, and this design uses that pliability to stretch the leaning effect.
What might seem like challenges in the system are used as advantages in the model through a creative solution.
Estimated Pieces
The playable game requires about 650 parts, and the tumbling tower may double the part count for the base and pinning methods.
These are real builds using existing parts currently in production. No renders, AI, or CGI was used to create this idea.
I tried, I really did, and this puzzle kicked me in the ass. No image, no difference between front or back, tiny teeth connectors, and very little help from the wood grain, which is much more visible in this photo than in person. Even though I have done two of these puzzles before, and understand the cut, this one took much longer, due to the ambiguity of front versus back side.
When I look at my difficulty ratings, the two Amoeba puzzles always stood out as outliers, since they have such small piece counts yet were extremely slow. I thought, maybe I had been taking my time, savoring the experience? But no, these puzzles are the real deal if you are looking for a challenge.
Completed in 3 hr., 10 mins. No image to refer to. 74 total pieces: 154 secs./piece; 23.4 pcs./hr. Difficulty rating: 15.4/10. The second most difficult puzzle I've timed. Part 2 will certainly be even harder.
