the godfather of british hip hop in style
Rodney P (born Rodney Panton in Battersea, London) is an English[1] MC who entered the UK hip hop scene in the 1980s. He started out as a member of the London Posse, one of the UK's first home grown hip hop acts who were highly influential in the development of the genre. Rodney P has had one of the longest and most respected careers in UK hip hop. Also known as da riddim killa, he cites the reggae he heard while growing up as a second-generation West Indian immigrant as an influence on his dub-heavy music.
In 1986 The London Posse were invited by Mick Jones of The Clash to support his new band Big Audio Dynamite on a UK tour. A recording contract with Big Life records followed, and Rodney P went on to support hip-hop heavyweights N.W.A. and Soul II Soul in the early nineties.
The decision to guard his creative control led to the birth of his own label Riddim killa, a collaboration with Low Life Records, one of the leading labels of the rapidly growing scene. He was introduced to DJ Skitz by a mutual friend from the Deal Real workshop in the West End, and appears on Skitz’s albums Countryman and Homegrown volume 1. The pair went on to host a show on the BBC 1Xtra radio station, a leading black music network, which ran for five years until 2007. This development in his career led to involvement in radio documentaries, including a programme recorded in Johannesburg about the aftermath of Apartheid.
His other recordings include tracks with high profile DJs and producers such as The Nextmen, One Mike, Mystro and Plus One, and alongside fellow MCs Roots Manuva, Skinnyman and Dynamite MC. His open-minded attitude to music is demonstrated in his collaborations with dance acts Roni Size and Freq Nasty, and even more surprisingly with Björk and Nitin Sawhney, as well as Greek hip hop crew Active Member. He continues to dominate the live scene as one of the most sought after artists, taking the mic both on the UK circuit and with his contemporaries from across the Atlantic. Recent appearances include the MF Prince's Trust Concert with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys and the United Nations Habitat Charity Concert alongside Jazzy Jeff, Dead Prez and Mos Def, as well as regular appearances at London’s legendary Fabric live nights.
He was also featured on Mark B and Blade's We Stay Rough, which was on their only album The Unknown.
Rodney P is also currently the host on the television series "Dubplate Drama" shown on Channel 4, E4 and MySpace.

The Reading and Leeds Festivals are a pair of annual rock music festivals that take place in Reading and Leeds in England. The events take place simultaneously on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend, sharing the same bill.
The Reading Festival is held at Little John’s Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading, near the Caversham Bridge. The Leeds event is held in Bramham Park, near Wetherby, the grounds of an historic house. Campsites are available at both sites and weekend tickets include camping. Day tickets are also sold.
Leeds Festival 2016 is one of Britain’s most well known and well loved festivals returns, and promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
Along with her sister festival, Leeds Festival boasts an ever impressive and diverse line up, ranging all the way from punk and metal, through to rock, alternative, indie, dance, and electro; these are a few of the reasons why Leeds Festival 2016 is going to be very special.
Leeds Festival has developed something of a habit of attracting some of the biggest global superstars, and world beating bands on the planet to their Yorkshire home. 2016 is set to be no different.
At Leeds Festival 2016 music fans will also have a chance to see a whole host of new acts and local bands in the smaller tents as well as the more established ones on the main stage. There are also great comedy acts in the alternative tent for when you require a welcome rest from the mosh pit!
Leeds Festival 2016 is set to be one of the most electrifying, and unforgettable festival experiences happening in Britain this year.

Leeds West Indian Chapeltown Carnival 2016
The Leeds Carnival, also called the Leeds West Indian Carnival or the Chapeltown Carnival, is the longest running West Indian carnival in Europe, having been going since 1967. The carnival is held in the Chapeltown and Harehills parts of Leeds every August bank holiday weekend. Attendance is estimated at about 150,000.
It is a 3-day event, climaxing in a carnival procession on Bank Holiday Monday, which starts and finishes in Potternewton Park in Chapeltown. A parade of floats and dancers makes its way along Harehills Avenue, down Roundhay Road in Harehills, along Barrack Road and back along Chapeltown Road to the park, where a wide range of stages and stalls provide entertainment and refreshment for carnival-goers. Since 2005 this event has been covered by BBC Radio 1Xtra in conjunction with Notting Hill Carnival.
Carnival Queen 2009
The Carnival Queen is chosen on the Friday before, and in 2008 for the first time a Carnival King was chosen: they were Davina Williams and Tyrone Henry. The 2009 King and Queen were Tony and Nicole Isles, who are father and daughter.
History
Its founders were Arthur France, then a Leeds University student from Saint Kitts, who is longstanding Chairman, Ian Charles, who was still Co-ordinator in 2008 . Arthur France proposed what would be the first Caribbean-style outdoor carnival organized by people of Caribbean origin in Europe. As the local Caribbean association was not forthcoming, he formed his own committee, and Ian Charles's home became a factory for costumes. Five contestants entered the first Carnival Queen Show, won by Vicky Seal as the Sun Goddess. They joined bands and dancers in a procession from Potternewton Park to Leeds Town Hall, where a steel band competition was followed by a dance. About a thousand people attended. The Leeds performers were invited to participate in the Notting Hill Carnival later the same year.
In the 1970s a procession route was established from Potternewton Park and back again via the city centre. The steel bands were on human-powered wheeled platforms. In 1977 crowds of 10,000 were reported.
The 1980s established a shorter route around Chapeltown and Harehills, and also sponsorship by local organizations. A Carnival Prince and Princess (children 3 to 13) were also chosen. Attendance reached 40,000 in 1988.
In 1990 3 people died during violence in the area afterwards. The decade saw increased professionalism by the now very experienced Carnival Committee and the introduction of lorries to carry bands. 1997 was the 30th anniversary and Arthur France received the MBE for his work with the local community.
2007 was the 40th anniversary, with crowds of 100,000 for the first time.It was also the 25th anniversary of the Leeds West Indian Centre, and the bicentenary of the abolition of transatlantic slavery. Ian Charles also received the MBE.

Broadcasting House is the headquarters of the BBC, in Portland Place and Langham Place, London. The first radio broadcast was made on 15 March 1932, and the building was officially opened two months later, on 15 May. The main building is in Art Deco style, with a facing of Portland stone over a steel frame. It is a Grade II* listed building and includes the BBC Radio Theatre, where music and speech programmes are recorded in front of a studio audience, and lobby that was used as a location for filming the 1998 BBC television series In the Red.
As part of a major consolidation of the BBC's property portfolio in London, Broadcasting House has been extensively renovated and extended. This involved the demolition of post-war extensions on the eastern side of the building, replaced by a new wing completed in 2005. The wing was named the "John Peel Wing" in 2012, after the disc jockey. BBC London, BBC Arabic Television and BBC Persian Television are housed in the new wing, which also contains the reception area for BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra (the studios themselves are in the new extension to the main building).
The main building was refurbished, and an extension built to the rear. The radio stations BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 4 Extra and the BBC World Service transferred to refurbished studios within the building. The extension links the old building with the John Peel Wing, and includes a new combined newsroom for BBC News, with studios for the BBC News channel, BBC World News and other news programming. The move of news operations from BBC Television Centre completed in March 2013.
The official name of the building is Broadcasting House but the BBC now also uses the term new Broadcasting House (with a small 'n') in its publicity referring to the new extension rather than the whole building, with the original building known as old Broadcasting House.

The BBC's Maida Vale studios have hosted some of the world's finest musicians, from The Beatles to Dizzee Rascal. In 2009 the BBC celebrated 75 years of Maida Vale. It's also a maze to navigate, & I get lost everytime I'm in the building.

BBC new Broadcasting House, connected to the 'old' Broadcasting house, is the home of much of the BBC's national TV and radio output.
Radio 1, 1Xtra, 3,4, 4 Extra, World Service, World News and BBC Vision are all housed in this huge building.

We recently hosted Adidas and DJ Target’s hip hop-karaoke party, which proved a big hit with the great and the good of the scene. Attended by the likes of Wretch 32, Bashy, JME, J2K, Princess Nyah and DJ Manny Norte, the evening saw a string of hip-hop hopefuls take to the stage to give unique interpretations of their favourite tracks.
The standard was impressively high and worth a special mention were the Radio 1Xtra team, whose version of So Solid’s '21 Seconds' stirred the crowd into a frenzy, and presenters Yasmin Evans and Craig Mitch, whose lively rendition of Wretch 32’s hit ‘Tractor’ culminated in a surprise appearance on stage from Wretch himself. It was a fitting end to an incredible night of music.
Check out Under the Bridge's unique gallery of rare and iconic photos of British musicians. Around 150 limited edition prints, personally signed by some of the world's great rock photographers.
