One of 3 Dragonhunters I saw @ Gibbs Gardens 2 days ago! Perching on purple irises and pickerel weed. Jim Gibbs showed up as I was shooting this Beast ... we had a chat about how much fun his Dragonhunters are! I'm basically shooting in his backyard. North Georgia

p.s. storms in the Southeast tonight - our electricity is flashing - stay safe!

An impressive arrival into the city.

2017 was alright but those three GP30's in the back looked like a better target.

From a sequence of images (three of which are posted) taken of this sanderling going through some morning preening at Moss Landing State Beach.

We saw 3 Blackwater's that day - they are one of our biggest dragonflies. Nice that she re-perched in these blackberries. @ the wetlands, North Georgia

It's getting late folks and we had 3 Monarchs stopping over today in my towering Tithonias (15 foot tall - that's our roof shingles). Fighting over the orange blossoms with an American Lady. We had a strong NW wind and sunshine - so keep those Monarchs coming before colder & wetter weather ahead. North Georgia yard

Please click to view large; this is a macro (micro) photo of tiny weed flowers in my yard.

The focal point is on the petal of the tiny red flower. At its widest point the entire flower measures less than 1/4" in diameter.

Painted farm shed in country SA (1 of 3).

A real beauty and such an eye catcher - even though it was a gray day! More than a match for any painted silo!

These very rare for Georgia clubtails have been flying since June and we saw at least 3 this week! I was also surprised to see so many Halloween pennants - which have wrapped @ the wetlands. I got sharper Spinyleg shots but can't resist this look he gave me with those baby blue eyes. So a fun day! Now have that hurricane on track right toward us .... so our drought is broken.

MONARCH UPDATE 10-18-19:

This is one of the 3 Monarchs I released yesterday - all were perfect but just needed to warm up (40's overnite, 50's at release, 70's in the full sun). Hopefully they're all on their way to Mexico!

See photo of the next chrysalis about to open - that I just shot today 10-18-19 with my Samsung.

North Georgia, 40's overnite but sunny thankfully

Robin Martin, Mural Magic: mural on Telstra Building, Killara (2 of 3, photographed in 2017)

I really love this mural, availabe for anyone to see, as they sweep past on the Pacific Highway (known as the Pacific Goat Track to my husband, the not-quite Formula 1 racing driver). It's been sad to see it accumulate non-enhancing graffiti over the years...

Details on the artist: robinmartinart.com.au/about and here are the artist's own pictures of the commission: robinmartinart.com.au/gallery/66-killara-telstra-exchange...

Getting this shot involved walking over slippery underwater rocks with a water level 1mm above the hight of my wellingtons. The joys of landscape photography.

This is the Brachiosaurus from LEGO Set #76960.

Dinosaurs are cool; And LEGO, for me, is a gateway to play.

And there's a lot i could say about why I choose to take it in this direction. About how it's still a work in progress, and much to be added. And where its headed. But what i want, is to know what you guys want.

So please, have a read through, and let me know below what you guys will be creating with your own dinos. What you'd like to see? And create? and how I can help you do it?

Who knew this locomotive is in the Register of Historical Places??? Maumelle Ordnance Works Locomotive #1 , mascarading as Augusta Railroad #7 at the Fort smith Trolley Museum. A truely unique critter for sure as it is powered by a Hercules gasoline engine that will turn 1800 rpm and is coupled to the wheels through a 4 speed gear box to the counter shafts that turn the drivers through drive rods. I had no idea I was photoing such a significant piece of history. Attached is the writeup from Wiki, I recommend reading it for some fascinating information.

Beallara ‘Big Shot’ hilo sparkle orchid

1of3 triptych orchid blue notes series. I love a mystery. Probably nothing worse than posting a flower without ID and then changing its colour making ID even harder. That's artistic license I guess.

Many thanks to Scott of Hervey bay Orchid house for the IDs

International Glass Bead Society artist Daniel Adams

and I teamed up for an upcoming show called "3 x 2 Collaborative Exhibit"

to be held at Facere, in Seattle, Washington. July 24th thru the 28th 2012.

Artist reception Friday. July 27th 2012.

Im so excited to see what all the other glass & metal artist pairings have inspired and transpired!

Details:

2012 marks the 20th anniversary of the (International) Society of Glass Beadmakers - ISGB. Their conference this summer is in Bellevue, Washington. The purpose of the 3x2 Exhibit is to showcase the talents of members of the ISGB and the SMG and also to explore the potential of combining handmade glass beads with hand fabricated metalwork.

A set of 3 beads was created by 40 different glass beadmakers. These bead sets were given to metalsmiths who will make finished jewelry.

The century-old Speicherstadt, the world's largest contiguous warehouse complex, is located in the free-port area.

The warehouses are built on oak piles and the area is crossed by canals.

Since 1991, this unique district has been given historic monument protection.

Dylan and Bluebelle got a Tipi from Santa. They had this wish for a long time. Today is the first test of the Tipi and their new sleeping bags. When they will be grown up, they want to be adventurers. They both want to travel around the world and every night they would sleep in their Tipi. Give me 5!! Yessss..it works :o)

three shots, as the moon rose and the acropolis' lights turned on.

the location, as usual, was determined by anthony ayiomamitis and we were joined by nikolaos pantazis. check out their captures!

needless to say, three photographers with tripods shooting the full moon attracted lots of tourists, so we were quickly surrounded by lots of people and cameras!

I was actually driving around looking for burrowing owls when I saw this coyote. I have seen her and her mate at least once or twice before. Can't say I earned this image. I barely got the car stopped and hung my lens out the window when she pounced.

SCENE 1of3....Medical Journal two hundred fourty five. its 2:30 a.m.. I've been in the lab now for about 60 hours . We still don't have an clue what the hell it is. My assistant Doctor Landon has obstructed its brain. Weve run every test and yet we still have no calculation of what the hell this thing is. the cop said they found it deep in the subway. It's still a mystery

[image 1of3] I think it's been a few years since KEMIS passed away. Found a couple of double-stacks with some KEMIS SE up on it.

What ever this is appears to have been modified to string cable. The patents on the builder's plate in frame 3 seem to indicate this may have been a sand and gravel separator at some point in it's life with most patents falling in the late 20's and early 30's. Sort of implying that it has been modified and likely stripped of other parts. looks like it was towed and the wide wheels are just too cool.

This root of a toppled over tree fascinated me, the way it was inset into the reddish bank, the patterns of the roots, the overhanging green branches.....I liked it as a natural abstract, but had lots of fun playing with it. Will upload 2 variations tomorrow. Hopefully.

Front view: Very surprising find at the Old Southeastern Thresher's Reunion; a 4 door, Chevrolet Convertible right hand drive that has Uruguay plates. Gotta be a real rare find in rural NC, a right hand drive export model. Enjoy the view.

The dynamics of population, small towns, ebb and flow of business always fascinate me, especially with the items left behind. Apparently a once thriving and successful store has been reduced to little more than debris and a skeleton. Know nothing of it other than I found it in the small town of Branchville, Va. while on a train chase. the next closest store appears to be quite a number of miles away. Somewhat sad in that it reminds me of the little store in the little town I like to refer to as home and it too is gone!

Harbour walk (1 of 3)

Revisiting one of our favourite walks from when we lived in Kirribilli. I find it interesting that I don't bother to put Sydney into the title; for me there is only one harbour.

The story unfolds in the comments below....

Click on the pic to view in original size. A friend of mine suggested that some of my pix might have an older and more realistic feel if they were converted to black and white. I took the bait and tried it on a couple, always open to comment. This is one of my favorites and was taken on the Danville Division, just last year, not today. Going chasing tomorrow. In black and white, one really could almost believed it is the early 50's. Set the 'wayback machine' Sherman, right Mr. Peabody.

This is wrapped around a lamppost.........

First winter in the log cabin, that was 35 yrs ago. Sure been a fun home. Would do it again. No I did not do the work, it was subcontracted. However, it is not as simple as a set of Lincoln Logs would lead you to believe.

First off, photographed with permission as it is on private property. Neat old grader, no builder information available, it was animal towed and converted to be machine towed. Fascinating piece of antique machinery. Click to view it fullsize.

If you are unfamiliar fir the story of the Great Locomotive Chase or Andrews Raid conducted on April 12, 1862 as an effort to sever the Western and Atlantic between Atlanta and Chattanooga by destroying track and burning bridges. The locomotive General was stolen at a breakfast stop and along with several cars headed north. This locomotive 'Texas' is credited with running them down and the capture of the wayward locomotive, with the raiders all being captured. The Great Locomotive Chase Movie appeared in 1956 with Fess Parker as James Andrews. Oh yes I saw it. This locomotive was housed in the Cyclorama to celebrate the Civil War for many years and I saw it there as a child, later as an adult when I lived in Atlanta. Here we renew acquaintance at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. An awful lot of work left. As part of the 611 steam up, we were encouraged to visit and see the Texas. Great opportunity to speak to one of the people working on it for some details of the work.

Today's sunrise was just to beautiful to let go unrecorded. I went back home to get the camera, I had already headed out on a different task...BUT!!! I tried several different POVs and lens settings. What you see is what the camera and I saw undoctored.

Yes folks, in a couple of months, this will be a beautiful dogwood tree with pink blooms, later green leaves amd the red berries to feed the fall birds. Right now it is just a barren framework to hang fluffy snow and freezing rain. Makes for a fascinating image.
