On 4th May 1942 Exeter, my home city, sustained heavy bombing from the German Luftwaffe. Some 30 Junker bombers dropped 10,000 incendiary bombs and 75 tons of high explosive. This was Hitler's retaliation for our bombing of the historic city of Lubeck in Northern Germany. A large part of Exeter's city centre was completely destroyed but remarkably our historic cathedral survived apart from some destruction of the St James side chapel. Everything you see in this photo is exactly as it would have appeared on the morning after the raid. In the foreground are the bombed remains of St Catherines Almshouses (retained as a war memorial) with one of the cathedral's towers still standing defiantly in the background. I was able to photoshop out a short piece of modern, stainless steel, railing protruding in the middle distance from the ruined wall on the right in the foreground.
A transition to something a bit different from a Show 'n' Shine. No idea as to what model this old timer is, but it does not matter, as there is not enough showing to appreciate the actual car. No shine to this set of wheels, but most will know how much I like the look of rust and of shapes.
Will likely take two clicks to get to full view, but worth it if you like texture.

My father, Siegfried Rudschinat (Napp), in 1942, probably at Aalborg East airfield.8./JG1
He was 20 years old here, with three more years of war still ahead of him.
If you’re interested, I’ve written his entire war story from 1939 to 1945 in my book Min fars Krig (My Father’s War), available in Norwegian.
You can order it directly from me.
The aircraft is a Bf 109 – perhaps some aviation specialists could help identify the exact variant.
Tugboat Limburgia started its life in 1942 as a steamboat, but the 300 hp steam engine was replaced in 1963 by a Brons 8ED 8-cylinder diesel engine producing 500 hp.
SAIL Amsterdam is a maritime event held once every five years in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Tall ships from all over the world visit the city to moor in its eastern harbour. SAIL Amsterdam 2025 is the tenth edition, and the first one since 2015 as the 2020 event was cancelled. It was one of the main events celebrating Amsterdam's 750th birthday. It was also 50 years since the first SAIL Amsterdam was held.

Rue Androuet, Montmartre.
Paris, March 2020
While walking through Montmartre on a Sunday, I came across a movie set. Rue Berthe and rue Androuet were transformed to Paris in 1942, during the German occupation. The next day I returned and witnessed a number of film recordings. In between the shots I had the opportunity to take some pictures on the set. The tricky part is that you always have people in the frame who do not fit into the era. Fortunately, thanks to some patience, I was able to photograph the actors among the beautiful old cars from that time.
By carefully studying the World War II color photographs, I was able to apply the color grading to create the beautiful Agfacolor atmosphere.
