Two Demoiselle Cranes (Grus virgo) were standing together during a drinks break. They drink water one after another as one of them always keeps an eye on surroundings whether in flocks or in tandem. This is for the vigilance. The posture of the birds and handsome head angles in parallel have made a delightful composition to frame. Pics was taken from a village in Rajasthan, India.
I had my 1.7x on and this handsome male popped up front and centre, no time to remove it. The detail it there so feel free to zoom in.
Surf scoters, one of the high octane diving ducks. Other than Buffleheads, ruddy ducks, and other scoters, can't think of any other ducks that have the same high energy level. Probably my favorite duck, and you gotta love the big orange/black paddlers and the whistling sound their feathers make when they fly.

The male brings a fish to the nest while the female incubates two eggs, they would change every 2-4 hours. What we didn't know at the time was one of the chicks had hatched, we were moments away from seeing it for the first time.
As we watched this little character something must have touched its foot, no chance it was putting the foot back down. After some investigating it tucked the foot underneath its feathers...safer.
Op 16 december een aantal kilometers door de natuur gelopen.
Deze regenboog was erg fel, maar later kregen we van de volgende bui een koude douche.
De pot met goud werd niet aangetroffen...
Maar we hebben de foto's nog....

The upside of spending time in the weeds and dirt is you can catch the spookiest of ducks if you stay still for about 2 hours. :) This is with my 200-500mm plus the 1.7x a reach out to 850mm. With a moving target, I believe I only managed to get 2 sharp shots the other one is on my website www.melanieleesonphotography.com/Recent-Photos/Winter-of-... of 2018-19. BTW anything I take worthy of posting will be placed in there shortly after my shoot, along with photos that don't always make it to Flickr.
A great blue heron I shot out by the local lake. The original background was quite busy so I dressed him up in photoshop. =)
Posted the original in the first comment.
A small flock of Crab Plovers (Dromas ardeola) was resting on the emerged rocky island near the sea-shore. It was very difficult to get near to them in hightides only during a low tide one has to move deeper inside the sea and as the sea level rises in high tides they come near the newly emerged islands. I was there miles inside the sea in chest deep water waiting them to come and was successful for a very short time. Pics was taken from a beach in Jamnagar, Gujrat, India.
The Silver Fox is is a melanistic form of the Red Fox. This one of two silver females we saw. Fox kits are coming soon hopefully tomorrow, I have a lot of sorting to do.
These little sweethearts have two more siblings all similar in colour, their Mother is a Silver Fox. Their daily routine was to nurse when Mom returned from hunting, chase each other or anything that moved for up to 30 mins, then flop down exhausted and sleep for a few hours...then a couple hours later do it all again.

That fuzzy little grey spot to the left of the egg is a newly hatched eaglet. The parents were changing duties the female was departing and the male taking over the care of the new eaglet and egg. They did not remove the broken shells until after the second one hatched. For the first 24 hours the eaglets did not eat there was fish available however the parents know better and waitied untill they were a day old before feeding. A truly wonderful experience watching this eagle family.
Michigan is sometimes called "The Great Lakes State". In addition to thousands of inland lakes, both large and small, Michigan shares coastlines of four of the Great Lakes: Michigan, Superior, Huron, and Erie. The fifth Great Lake is Lake Ontario.
Lake Saint Clair, as shown in the picture is a large lake by any standard, except when compared to the Great Lakes. L.St. Clair is 26 miles long (42km) and 24 miles wide (39km), but it is still 17x smaller than Lake Ontario.
The St. Clair River connects L. St. Clair to Lake Huron, and the Detroit River connects it to Lake Erie, making it continuous with the Great Lakes waterway system.
Some people refer to Lake St. Clair as the "Sixth Great Lake".

A Crested serpent Eagle (Spilornis cheela) was taking a rest on a branch under shade. It was busy in hunting earlier and decided to scan from this camouflaged site while taking a break. The ambience and the Bokeh look beautiful here. Pics was taken from Barrackpore, West Bengal, India.
Feeling like a happy but inadequate photographer : ) with my new Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR, it is so tiny and light. This shot is with the 1.7x out to 500mm with a 50% crop, I think can tweak it a little more but not bad for a hiking lens... the days of going any distance carrying the 200-500mm with a tripod are over hopefully I can get back to carrying the weight one day. (this is due to a car accident over 2 years ago)
Settings:
f/6.7
500mm
1/1000
ISO 250
The feeling inadequatecy is because of the lens size I don't look like a serious photographer anymore lol, thanks for your comments always appreciated.
A sweet pair of Thick-billed green pigeon (Treron curvirostra) was watching nearby movements from a top perch with elegant romantic posture. The posture of them is truly adorable and they were in a romantic move, the leaning male was constantly pushing gently to the breast of the female the male continued to chase her in different branches. Pics was taken from hilly areas in Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, West Bengal, India.
