As we drove the "17-Mile-Drive" on California's Monterey Peninsula, we came to this point that overlooked colorful foliage, a beach, Pacific Ocean surf, and an unknown golf course . . . it seemed to express our pleasure about the entire drive.

Located south of San Francisco, California, the Monterey Peninsula is a beautiful tour. The main attraction is 17-Mile-Drive. The sand, weedy vegetation, and tree are all in the rough along a golf course. The Pacific Ocean is beyond the tree . . . and it does not matter if cloudy or sunny, see it.

17-Mile Drive is a scenic road through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula in California. One of the most scenic drives in the world as you meet the inspiring Lone Cypress. The Lone Cypress is a Monterey cypress tree located in Pebble Beach. Standing atop a granite headland overlooking Carmel Bay, the tree has become a Western icon and has been called one of the most photographed trees in North America. Also, this iconic tree is used as the logo for Pebble Beach Resorts since it starts in 1919. The location is a famous sunset point for hundreds of visitors waiting in the evening.

Running around capturing photons reflecting off sandstone for my Shooting Sandstone collection when I saw this rock with red lichen growing on it. Got a few pics of it when this beach chicken joined me, so I had to get in a few pics of him, too.

Said to be 250 years old. On the beautiful 17 mile drive - near Monterey, California.

I don't usually post trucks, but made an exception for this rare Studebaker Transtar pickup with vintage camper, in pristine condition. If you check just above the cab, you can see a sign indicating this was on 17 Mile Drive in Pacific Grove, CA.

I'm not positive, but I think this was near the Lone Cypress. I do know it was along the 17-Mile Drive, between Monterey and Carmel.

One day on a recent trip to Monterey, we took a trip down 17 Mile Drive and of course, I had to stop and take a picture of this iconic tree. It's had a pretty long life living on top of that rock. Humans have done a lot of things over the years to help extend its life. If you blow up the picture, you can see some of what we've done at the base of the tree. I was kind of surprised by the signs that were posted warning you not to try and make money off of any pictures you take of the tree. The Pebble Beach Golf Course claims rights to the tree, and they don't want you to steal any money from them. So, please don't send me any money for this one. I'll have to give it to them. :)
