That was the tail logo of the Royal Navy's 899 squadron which was carried by both Sea Vixens and Sea Harriers.

I photographed Sea Harrier FRS.1 XZ452 at Greenham Common when it was just shy of being two years old.

The following year it served in the Falklands conflict, but was lost in that area in what was believed to be a mid air collision with another in poor visibility.

Dennis Tridents at Lincoln depot.

Stagecoach East Midlands ( Lincoln) 17730, 18022, 18055, 18042 and 18043.

Whenever I looked into the depot from the bridge I never realised the road to the adjacent Network Rail compound was accessible, until I went with another enthusiast. Although it appears to technically be public land, the NR people don’t want you there when their vans are driving up and down due to the limited clearance, so it’s probably for the best that I avoided it for all that time!

17730 wasn’t a bus I ever saw in service, as it spent much of its time in Mansfield. It was alleged to have run at Lincoln immediately before withdrawal, although no photos exist of it having done so. Funnily enough the same day I took this I did see 17719, which would have been the oldest closed top Stagecoach Trident still active at the time.

The upper front swoops are unusually painted for an ALX400 and don’t extend as far back along the roof as usual; the application is more like what you’d see on a President. Clearly it’s been subjected to a higher level of component stripping than 18047 as it is missing most of its lower front end, lights, windscreens, upper deck seats and engine access panels.

After the many times I photographed it out on the road, here is what would be my final view of 18047, withdrawn and parked in the scrap line at Lincoln depot. It is seen along with 17730 behind, plus 18042 visible through the windows. 18042 must’ve been withdrawn after an accident as it had a particularly mangled front.

I believe this now has the dubious honour of being the oldest closed top Trident in front line service with Stagecoach.... Naturally it lives at Mansfield. Where else would it be??

Stagecoach East Midlands 17730 in Sheffield Interchange before working service 53 to Mansfield

Stagecoach in Mansfield Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Trident 17730 MK02EGZ is seen on Clumber Street, Mansfield working route 12 to Shirebrook on 17/08/2022.

When withdrawn from service at Hull due to their second batch of E400MMCs, the ML/MK02 plates were flung across the East Midlands like the YN06s since have been. 17713, 725, 730 were the three transferred to Lincoln, all being in the reserve fleet nominally, and didn’t last long there. 17725 was in service on this summers day when I visited, and sadly had major gearbox issues meaning it was later withdrawn. 17713 made it to Mansfield and lasted until early 2020, 17730 also moved there and is still in service as of January 2021. Gainsborough gained 17718 & 719, the former saw little service there if memory serves me, whilst 719 remains there into 2021, and was treated to a repaint in summer 2020.

Withdrawn 18022, 17730, 18042, 18043 and 18122 in Great Northern Terrace depot, along with 19688, the Bristol, another President and one of the driver trainers, on 1.11.23

As of 1.12.23 17730 is the only one of the Tridents still there. I thought they would have dumped it at Scunthorpe along with the others, or at least moved it over to Gainsborough so they could use it as a parts donor.

edit - I lie, 18042 is still there as well as the President parked in front of it. Again, not sure why kept since Lincoln can't really use them for parts now.
