A grey day at Tyseley and 172344 is loading up with Christmas shoppers at platform 2, the train being the 10.46 Dorridge to Kidderminster. Passing at speed on platform 1 is a Marylebone bound Chiltern service.

I hope this does not offend too many purists but the picture is a concept, intended to see if it was possible to achieve this result, I would never fake a "proper" railway photograph but this is only a couple of everyday DMUs.
The 172 was photographed at 1/200th@ 640 iso, enough exposure for depth of field to be okay and to stop any movement of passengers. The next train was the Chiltern, I wanted a short train with a full bright yellow front to get the blur, a 168 was fine. That was photographed at around 1 second @ 100 iso. The camera was on a tripod but as I could not sit on the steps of a fairly busy station the position of the feet were chalk marked and the camera moved between pictures. The only thing not factored for was a tree growing on the platform next to the right hand edge, this is what has caused the oddly pixelated appearance because the tree reacted to the wind created by the 168 and moved during exposure.
The pictures were combined in Photoshop with verticals, horizontals and barrel distortion corrected, as the exposures were matched little else was needed.
I enjoyed doing it, it was interesting (to me) to see if what I had in mind could be done, it is not intended to fool anybody, hence the long winded explanation.

--> story in the note
[i have no idea what happend to this film. maybe it's a very old b/w film my dad bought 20 years ago and i haven't noticed when I inserted it. does anyone know this strange red tint.]
I am really loving these stories from Story People (thank you FGR!). They're so innocent and true and pure like a child's beliefs. Children live their lives guided by their heart, not their minds. And I feel like I've lost some of that. I am too much in my head, especially in my photography work. I met an artist yesterday and he said a lot of artists have the same feeling. That really comforted me. But I'm going to try to live and work more by heart. Rationality kills fantasy and that would be the end of my photos and basically anything "true".
Sometimes you just need the right accessory, she said & I said I know, sometimes it takes me an hour to pick the right head & she just ignored me.
