A young Coyote stands just off the road margin, intent on something other than the rolling red Toyota car blind. I was able to slide over the gear shift and parking brake to shoot out through the open passenger side window.
I find that late fall/early winter is the best time to photograph Coyotes in my area. The young ones are fully grown by then and dispersing, and some of them do not seem very aware of how dangerous we humans are. They are protected in the national park, but very vulnerable when they cross that boundary line and stray onto the surrounding farms and ranches. An old rancher once told me, "I shoot ever' one of 'em that comes in my yard. But I'd sure miss 'em if they all disappeared." I said, "Well you've got a contradiction going there." He snorted. We all live with our contradictions.

Photos from sunny Swanage now taken late in August. What a wonderful day out Swanage is - the archetypal holiday town in Southern England, with long sandy beaches, chalk cliffs, open top buses and steam trains! It really does feel like stepping back in time visiting the place, especially if you arrive via the heritage railway.
Morebus 1710 is pictured on the seafront at Swanage. It is operating route 50 which has come from Bournemouth via the Sandbanks ferry. The open toppers are usually fully loaded in summer months, and due to Covid, this year many popular journeys were running with duplicate buses.

When the power blew out one evening last week and was still out the next morning, I decided it would be a good day to visit the park and see what I could see. The ferocious wind had passed over and in its wake, total calm. Warm sun was beaming down. Two minutes along the Ecotour Road, I spotted not one but two Coyotes, basking in the warmth. Maybe they were tired after a night of prowling. For whatever reason, they were disinclined to move.
I parked by the roadside and waited to see what would happen next. This was my first shot, of the larger one - I am guessing a parent or larger sibling, as they were both female. She showed no fear. A moment later she curled up and resumed her nap.
