After being conquered to the Moors by D. Afonso Henriques in 1166, Mourão Castle was integrated in the Portuguese Crown in 1271 as dowry of Spanish princess D. Beatriz de Gusmão for the marriage to D. Afonso III. Mourão castle was reinforced by D. Dinis. In 1657 it was rebuilt according to defensive rules. Seven bastions were built around the old castle. Church Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora das Candeias was also rebuilt. The image of the patron saint was the only thing that remained from the former church. This was the only building inside the castle (annual feast on February 2nd). The landscape has deeply changed, since this castle is located next to Alqueva reservoir.It is therefore a privileged viewpoint upon the great lake.

N&W SD45 1709 and some other N&W and D&H power rest at the D&H Bevier Street yard in Binghamton, NY on January 13, 1979. This was one of those all day trips of logging over 300 miles and hardly seeing a wheel turn on the rail. We did Sayre, PA, Binghamton, and Oneonta. The only thing we saw running was a short train leaving Bevier Street for Oneonta, with faded blue 7323 leading. We thought it an unworthy subject at the time. This turned out to be a day with pretty much nothing but roster shots and yard scenes.

Als gebürtiger Düsseldorfer hat es mich schon sehr früh in die Ferne gezogen. Frankfurt, München, Wien, Graz und seit 1999 wohnhaft in Jennersdorf, im wunderschönen Südburgenland.
Im ausgeübten Beruf als Werbegestalter und Grafiker (1966-1992) aber auch in der Selbständigkeit (bis 2012) ist die bildende Kunst immer allgegenwärtig gewesen.
Meine Leidenschaft sind Experimente mit verschiedenen Hilfsmitteln und Materialien wie zum Beispiel:
Kurzfilme mit und ohne Kamera - Kodak-Sofortbilder ganz ohne Kamera - Negativstreifen und Dias anders gesehen - PC-Fehler zur kreativen Weiterverarbeitung verwenden - Digitalfotografie und ihre Möglichkeiten mit einem Apple-Computer kombinieren und verfeinern - und bis heute noch vieles mehr entdecken...
Former US Coast Guard HC-130H Hercules 1709, one of seven airframes originally transferred to the US Forest Service for conversion to fire bomber configuration. This program has now been cancelled. Seen at Sacramento McClellan Airport in September 2019.
The natural light has almost gone as the evening turns to the night with the promenade lighting taking over the illumination, Olhao, Algarve, Portugal, 26th September 2017.
With clear skies as we approached the full moon, I checked the moonrise times for that week. To record both moon and landscape in the shot, I would have to catch the moon rising when there was still some light on the land. The optimal date for this was September 5th, the evening before the actual full moon. The following evening, the moon would rise later, and some digital trickery would be needed - either HDR, multiple exposure blending, a lot of burning and dodging, or all of the above.
I hiked up into the buttes with an assortment of lenses and the tripod. I knew I'd want at least one shot with a long telephoto, and I have three ways of reaching 500mm: (1) using the 500mm prime (too heavy to carry that far); (2) the 200-500mm zoom (same problem); (3) the lightweight alternative, a very compact 300mm + 1.7x. I opted for the latter and didn't notice the weight in my pack.
It was a perfect evening. No wind. Pure and silent. A big bull bison grazed a couple hundred yards away. Closer, two or three mule deer does watched me but did not bolt. I was the only person who'd hiked up there; everybody in the world was somewhere else. Then a glow in the east, just after sunset, and this big, orange moon rose over the prairie, looking full, although technically it still had a day to go. Wow.
No gimmickry here, just a single shot. Not even much processing aside from normal adjusting colour and contrast. I didn't even have to burn the moon or dodge the landscape.

The metro in St Petersburg is not just a means of transport. It is also renowned for the beauty and the architectural ingenuity of its stations. The first line was constructed in 1955, and all eight stations on that line hold the status of places of cultural significance. The metro has since then expanded, bringing new, creative stations to the system. Here are the ones worth making a stop at while en route.
The Admiralteyskaya station is connected to the ground with two consecutive escalators. Since it is very difficult to build escalators longer than 125 metres (410 ft), it was decided to build one long escalator (125 metres (410 ft)) to the intermediate level. From this level a shorter (25 metres (82 ft)) escalator leads to the station. The total depth of the station is 86 metres (282 ft) which makes it the deepest metro station in Saint Petersburg.
