Anime Detour, the social event of the season for the Minnesota anime community. Something about Detour makes people try their hardest to have fun. After 6 months of cold, snow, and no conventions, people are ready to cut loose in a big way.
This was my 5th Detour, but my first as a photographer. I haven't taken many pictures since Daisho Con, so I was worried it may take me a while to get back into the habit. Boy, was I wrong. That special something about Detour hit me hard, I found myself with my head on the floor trying to get the angles right, I woke up early after a late night of partying so I could take pictures before the hotel got crowded, and I constantly pushed myself to take more pictures and interact with more cosplayers.
I had a lot of fun, and learned a ton. I took about 1,500 photos, and after 20 or so hours of editing I have just under 300 pictures to share. Some photographers only upload their very best pictures, I try to upload at least one good picture of everyone who lets me take their photo. There were a few sets of photos that didn't work out, so a few really great costumes didn't make it into this gallery, but I'm sure one of the many great photographers who attended the convention will have a photo of anyone I missed.
As with all my convention photos, if you see yourself or someone you know, please let me know and I'd be glad to credit you in the description, send you the raw image, etc. I'm not a professional, and if my photos can help improve the convention experience in any way I'm glad to help.
Today's 365 prompt is "in the grass" such as "lounging," "a different angle" and "green." Well, as I was working in the garden and Milo is never very far away - only disappears when stalking birds!!
I can almost guarantee when I get down on the grass for any "worm's eye viewed" shot, Milo does just this - 9 times out of 10 and it's just like he's wanting me to take his photograph! Silly Milo!!

Edm 163 part 1- draw a deck of cards 8" x 10" black pen, colored pencil- this was a tough exercise- so many things are off in symmetry, but it forced me to try to focus on proportion and intricate patterns- I kept wanting to flip it over as I worked on the bottom half but I wouldn't flip it- don't know why I made this a "rule".

so...tonight i played a couple songs in a Dirty Dancing Burlesque Show.
IT WAS JUST SORT OF FUCKING AWESOME.
(...i mean the show. my playing was okay.)
...and yeah. this is what i was wearing. to sort of fit into the whole 60s/vintage thing.
(ARGH i just noticed i took off my fantastic earrings before taking this shot. they matched my shoes and everything.)
Rebecca was on Ottawa's Bank Street with two of her friends, for obvious reasons I was attracted by her bright red hair and unique costume. Rebecca was dressed as the Marvel Comic character Black Widow and was part of the social media event #wewantwidow.
Currently Rebecca works at a local comic book store, however these still waters run deep. Rebecca has a degree in Forensic Science from Ottawa's Carleton University, she had considered becoming a police officer, but has decided against that particular career. She is now looking to become a Forensic Pathologist and is weighing up her options to pursue that goal.
I asked her if she had always dressed up as a kid, she recalls attending her High School Prom, when she dressed as the character Scream, when her classmates all dressed up as Prom Queens, good move Rebecca, dare to be different.
