"Tradition has it that the church was built on the site of a druidic temple. The church was part of a monastery, mentioned for the first time in the middle of the 12th century among the possessions of the abbey of Aurillac. In 1365, Pope Urban V established the priory of Ispagnac as a conventual priory and placed it under the control of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Victor in Marseille. In 1580, the church was seriously damaged by the Protestants. It was restored at the beginning of the 17th century, then in the 18th. Restorations were also carried out in 1807, 1853 and at the beginning of the 20th century. The 12th century building has only undergone transformations in its bell towers which would be from the 15th or the beginning of the 16th century. One, octagonal, dominates the crossing of the transept; the other, square, is placed on the west facade". www.mende-coeur-lozere.fr/en/offers/eglise-romane-saint-p...

In the later years of the fifteenth century, the MacLeods of Assynt decided to build themselves a castle on a good defensive site at the northeastern end of the loch. This first castle was a comparatively simple rectangular block of some three or four storeys.

About a century later Donald Ban, ninth MacLeod of Assynt added a tower with a stair and two upper rooms with fireplaces and also creating vaulted cellars and a vault over the great hall.

In 1650 the MacLeods imprisoned the Marquis of Montrose in the castle. At the time many Scots saw Montrose as a traitor, but within twenty years the political situation changed and it was the MacLeods who were being vilified. This played into the hands of the MacKenzies who achieved their long-nurtured ambition to acquire Assynt through a siege of the castle in 1672.

Dunnottar Castle (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Fhoithear, "fort on the shelving slope") is a ruined medieval fortress located upon a rocky headland on the north-eastern coast of Scotland, about 2 miles (3 kilometres) south of Stonehaven. The surviving buildings are largely of the 15th and 16th centuries, but the site is believed to have been fortified in the Early Middle Ages. Dunnottar has played a prominent role in the history of Scotland through to the 18th-century Jacobite risings because of its strategic location and defensive strength.

Dunnottar is best known as the place where the Honours of Scotland, the Scottish crown jewels, were hidden from Oliver Cromwell's invading army in the 17th century. The property of the Keiths from the 14th century, and the seat of the Earl Marischal, Dunnottar declined after the last Earl forfeited his titles by taking part in the Jacobite rebellion of 1715. The castle was restored in the 20th century and is now open to the public.

The ruins of the castle are spread over 1.4 hectares (3+1⁄2 acres), surrounded by steep cliffs that drop to the North Sea, 160 feet (50 metres) below. A narrow strip of land joins the headland to the mainland, along which a steep path leads up to the gatehouse. The various buildings within the castle include the 14th-century tower house as well as the 16th-century palace. Dunnottar Castle is a scheduled monument, and twelve structures on the site were listed buildings.

It was in 1248 that Zierikzee received its town charter. By the medieval era, it had acquired a strategic importance: between 1414 and 1576 fires reduced to partial or complete ashes several times.

It was in 1248 that Zierikzee received its town charter. By the medieval era, it had acquired a strategic importance: between 1414 and 1576 fires reduced to partial or complete ashes several times.

The wars of the 20th centuries had their impact too. In WW1, an off-course British bomber dropped several bombs on Zierikzee, killing three citizens. In the decades after the Second World War, some 30 million kilos of munition were dumped in the (deep) Gat van Zierikzee in the Oosterschelde estuary – and remain there today.

Andrea Palladio (30.11.1508 - 19.8.1580) erected most of his famous buildings in Vicenza, North-East Italy (Veneto), so this Basilica Palladiana or Palazzo della Ragione. Its an UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994. This building was not a church, other as the designation as „basilica“ might suggest, it was used for multiple purposes for the city of Vicenza which till nowadays

also is called the city of Palladio.

This castle is situated on a coastal promontory 300m W of Rock Hall fishing-station; a tower, measuring 2.5m square within a wall 0.6m in thickness, stands on the seaward end of the promontory, and further remains of walling are visible across the neck, 40m to the NNE.

Allegedly the remains of a castle erected in the 15th century, on a rocky peninsula connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus.

The isthmus was guarded by two rows of battlements, one of which still remains, well-preserved. There are traces around the greater part of the rock, and on its sea-ward extremity there are the remains of a square tower, accessible only by leaping over a chasm.

All that remains of the Kaim of Mathers are a ruined tower at the extreme seaward end of a promontory, and a part of a battlement along the east side of the isthmus: the remainder has been destroyed by erosion. Only the N and E walls of the tower remain, measuring 2.5m square internally with walls 4.5m high and 0.6m thick. The section of crenellated walling at the isthmus measures 8.0m in length, 3.0m high and 0.6m thick, with a relieving arch beneath.

Whites Castle tower house was built in 1417 in County Kildare by Sir John Talbot, Viceroy of Ireland, to protect the Cromaboo Bridge over the River Barrow and the inhabitants of the Pale. On the right of the doorway is the Earl of Kildare's coat of arms, signifying the Earl's ownership of the castle in former days. It is now a private residence.

Balvaird Castle in Perthshire is a traditional late medieval Scottish tower house. It is located in the Ochil Hills, around 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) south of Abernethy. The name Balvaird is from Baile a' Bhàird, 'Township of the Bard' in Gaelic. Balvaird Castle is a scheduled monument, and is in the care of Historic Environment Scotland.

The spelling of its name has many variations, including Balverd, Balverde, Balward, Balwaird and Baleward.

Balvaird was built around the year 1495 for Sir Andrew Murray, a younger son of the family of Murray of Tullibardine. He acquired the lands of Balvaird through marriage to the heiress Margaret Barclay, a member of a wealthy family and daughter of James Barclay of Kippo. It is likely that Balvaird Castle was built on the site of an earlier Barclay family castle. Substantial remnants of earthwork fortifications around the Castle may survive from earlier defences. Balvaird is first mentioned in the written historical record in 1498 as 'the place of Balward' in the Register of the Great Seal of Scotland.
