New instant wine bags. Just add water. Available in Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Zinfandel. Each bag makes one 150ml glass for you to enjoy in just 4 minutes.

HMM!

Macro Mondays: April Fools.

This is 150ml of condensation that won't be chilling my flat and making an environment that supports mold. It came from the tiles around my shower just now.

My friend suggested a window vac in the bathroom would help, as there isn't a window to open, just an underpowered extractor fan.

I got this one in a sale. More fun to be had in the morning.

Lanzarote sits outside of the geographic norms for winemaking, but native varieties have all adapted to the hot, dry (150ml per annum rainfall) and often windy conditions. The vines are not trained to grow on trellising, instead they crawl, hiding behind stone walls, looking for shelter from the wind.

Another Spring tide

Another afternoon passes

Along with the summer clouds

And occasional tourist.

Lying where it was left

The hulk lies rotting

Each tide carrying away

More of its memories.

Soon, there will be nothing

To remind us of its life

And the life it gave to those men

Who worked its lines.

Dumped. Left. Forgotten.

All it does now is raise questions

Stirring the imagination

Of those who take time to wonder. (PhilJazz 2024)

- The chocolate coating on the first lot was too thick.

So, we ate the Lamingtons as quickly as possible in order to make a second lot.

- The second lot looked nice and golden in the oven.

Alas,

I forgot to add baking powder and the slab of cake was almost rock hard. I suppose, I could have kept them as teeth shattering cookies, but thought they were less trouble in the bin.

- This, the third lot, looked and tasted just right.

For this lot, I changed the chocolate coating from water, cocoa powder and icing sugar, to about 150mL of milk, 200g good dark chocolate, icing sugar and some hot water to make it a bit more runny. This worked well and appears to be less sweet.

for these recipes hmong sausage was needed but i couldn't find it in the shops - decided to have a go and make it myself

hmong sausage flic.kr/p/2r1enzr

photos show two recipes requiring hmong sausage

1. sushi filled with hmong sausage and salad

2. sticky rice blended with hmong sausage in the sandwich bags www.youtube.com/watch?v=vriSXfMHQEo

first attempt at having the sticky rice on the outside of the sushi and the nori inside

a messy practise run with the sriracha sauce (spicy mayonnaise) on the sushi. drizzling skills were non existent. i'll be making more attempts :)

i sprinkled with fish flakes bought for the 'shrimps sushi with avocado' recipe to be attempted another day. the flakes are quite strong flavoured and weren't needed for this sushi as the filling was pork :(

wrapped and rolled in the three plastic sandwich bags is cooked sticky rice and hmong sausage all now in the freezer for as and when

SECOND PHOTO CHALLENGE

The start of the quarantine period in Thailand was during the crucial process of her ongoing university project. A normal human being cannot ... and SHOULD NOT spend all his time working on a computer all day long, alone, especially in a stuffy room. MISS SL ♛ Thailand was fully aware of that and had decided to move her working space to the kitchen counter where she could do her school work and spent her free time cooking every recipe she has saved on her Pinterest. Being at the center of the house, meaning she would be able to interact with (and annoy) everyone in the house all the time. yay!

With lots of time on her hands, she could cook everything by herself, from simple orange juice and smoothies to homemade pastry!

MISS SL ♛ Thailand is performing a solo Broadway show while making a hopefully delicious beef pot pie with her cats. (the recipe for that is shared below)

MISS SL ♛ Thailand hopes everyone is staying safe. She thinks that quarantine is not that bad since it brings you closer to your family and also gives you time to be with yourself; lots of free time to try new hobbies and activities you would never have the time to before. :)

Jogue todo conteúdo do envelope de gelatina no liquidificador;

Por cima jogue a água bem quente.. espere de 30 segundos a 1 minuto, e depois bata um pouco para a água dissolver a gelatina (não se preocupe se não dissolver perfeitamente);

Bom domingooo meninas

*MODO DE FAZER;

4 ou 5 gelatinas de vários sabores!

1 lata de leite condensado

leite

pinch of asafoetida

oil for deep-frying

Dahi or yogurt

600ml/1 pt/2 1/2 cups natural (plain) yoghurt

salt

30ml/2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander (cilantro)

5ml/1 tsp ground roasted cumin

1 small green chili, chopped

Method:

1 Blend the split and whole beans and the water in a blender or food processor to a smooth paste then whisk until spongy. To test whether it is ready, drop 2.5ml/1/2 tsp of the mixture into a cup of cold water; if it floats, the mixture is ready. Mix in the spices.

2 Heat the oil in a deep frying pan (skillet). Dampen your palm and put 15ml/1 tbsp of the mixture on it, flatten it to 5mm/1/8 in the thick and make a hole in the centre.

3 Gently slip it into the hot oil and fry a few at a time until golden brown. Remove and leave to cool. Drop the baras into boiling water and leave to soak for 20 minutes. Remove and squeeze out excess water.

4 Whisk the yoghurt until smooth then season to taste with salt. Dip the baras in the yoghurt then arrange in a serving dish then pour over the remaining yoghurt and refrigerate for 2-3 hours. Sprinkle with the garnish ingredients before serving.

Getting your 5 A DAY is easy. There are plenty of ways to add more fruit and vegetables to your daily meals.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

5 A DAY at breakfast

Add fruit to cereal, porridge or lower-fat yoghurt. Try a handful of berries or a chopped banana.

Add mushrooms or tomatoes to scrambled eggs.

One glass (150ml) of unsweetened 100% fruit juice counts towards your 5 A DAY. Fruit or vegetable juice counts as a maximum of one portion a day.

Make a quick smoothie in a blender using your favourite fresh or frozen fruits. A smoothie containing all of the edible pulped fruit or vegetable can count as more than one portion a day, depending on how it's made.

Get more healthy breakfast tips.

5 A DAY at lunch

Add some crunch to your sandwiches with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber or grated carrots.

Sticks of cucumber, peppers and carrot, and cauliflower or broccoli florets are delicious with dips such as salsa or lower-fat cheese spread.

Add fruit and veg to your favourite meals. Try adding chopped carrots to bolognese sauce, sprinkle chopped red peppers on your pasta, or mix veg such as peas into mashed potato to make it even tastier. Add tomatoes to your omelette or mushrooms to your next stir-fry.

Add beans, lentils and pulses to stews, soups, bakes and salads. However much you eat, beans and pulses count as a maximum of one portion a day.

5 A DAY at dinner

Have a salad or vegetable side dish with your main meal. If you're having shepherd's pie, have some peas too. If you're having a roast dinner, add some carrots or broccoli to your plate.

Frozen fruit and veg count towards your 5 A DAY. It only takes a couple of minutes to microwave some frozen peas, mixed vegetables or mini corn on the cob.

Canned fruit and veg count too. It's healthier to choose fruit canned in juice rather than sugary syrup, and veg canned in water without added salt or sugar.

It's easy to add fresh, frozen or canned fruit and veg to meals. Sprinkle sweetcorn or pineapple chunks on top of a thin-based pizza, or liven up soups and sauces with a handful of kidney beans, peas or sweetcorn.

Snacks and your 5 A DAY

Swap sugary snacks, such as biscuits, for a piece of fruit.

Here's a good one, one I wasn't sure was going to turn out, the kind of 'using anything that's in the fridge' kind of thing.

CHICKPEA, BEETROOT, CAULIFLOWER, TOMATO CURRY

CHICKPEAS: soak overnight, rinse & drain, cover with water, bring to a boil and simmer until 'al dente' (±20 minutes). Set aside.

BEETROOT: cut off top stalk (and or leaves, keeping leaves for another dish) and root, peel with a speed peeler and chop into 1/2" (2cm) cubes. Steam until 'al dente' (±25 minutes), set aside

SAUCE: dice 1/2 onion, small shallot, a couple of cloves of garlic. Dice a small stick of celery (or a big one, if you want! :-) ), saute the lot in a good glug of rice bran oil until transparent.

Add 3 or 4 ripe tomatoes, finely diced, and stir the lot up.

Season with salt, pepper, curry powders of your choice (I used GFresh mild & hot, Keene's 'Traditional', and a big tablespoon of Patak's Madras paste), and a good dash of turmeric. Add a little glug of Maggi sauce, a splash of dry sherry, a good glug of V8 Original juice. Simmer for a few minutes until the tomatoes start to break down.

Chop the stalks of a good bunch of cilantro into 1/4" (3mm) pieces, add to the stew.

Break or cut the cauliflower into small, bite-sized flowerlets and add to the sauce. Simmer until they're starting to get soft.

Add the cooked chickpeas, beetroot, and continue to simmer so that the flavours all blend.

Dice the coriander leaves, stir in.

RICE: Cook some rice (I use 150ml in 300 ml in a rice cooker for 3 portions) as all this is going on.

Warm bowls in your oven or microwave, put a portion of rice in the bowl, add the curry on top, and serve.

Surprisingly good! And a great way to use beetroot! :-)

Ingredients: 150g finely crushed ladyfingers, 125g butter, 600g Philadelphia cream cheese, 300g yoghurt, 3 big spoon lemon juice, 6 envelopes Gelatine, 150ml warm water, 75g sugar and some fruits

Mr T has made a start on the Christmas Cake this year. Soaking the fruit for 3 days in Brandy - smells divine :)).

(He is using a Mary Berry recipe.)

Ingredients

For the cake

175g/6oz raisins

350g/12oz natural glacé cherries, halved, rinsed, and thoroughly dried

500g/1lb 2oz currants

350g/12oz sultanas

150ml/¼pt brandy or sherry, plus extra for feeding

2 oranges, zest only

250g/9oz butter, softened

250g/9oz light muscovado sugar

4 free-range eggs, at room temperature

1 tbsp black treacle

75g/3oz blanched almonds, chopped

250g/9oz plain flour

1½ tsp mixed spice

For the covering

about 3 tbsp apricot jam, warmed and sieved

icing sugar

675g/1lb 8oz marzipan

For the royal icing

3 free-range eggs, whites only

675g/1½lb icing sugar, sifted

3 tsp lemon juice

1½ tsp glycerine

Recipe tips How-to-videos

Method

For the cake, place all the dried fruit, including the cherries, into a large mixing bowl, pour over the brandy and stir in the orange zest. Cover with clingfilm and leave to soak for three days, stirring daily.

Grease and line a 23cm/9in deep, round tin with a double layer of greased greaseproof paper. Preheat the oven to 140C/275F/Gas 1.

Measure the butter, sugar, eggs, treacle and almonds into a very large bowl and beat well (preferably with an electric free-standing mixer). Add the flour and ground spice and mix thoroughly until blended. Stir in the soaked fruit. Spoon into the prepared cake tin and level the surface.

Bake in the centre of the preheated oven for about 4-4½ hours, or until the cake feels firm to the touch and is a rich golden brown. Check after two hours, and if the cake is a perfect colour, cover with foil. A skewer inserted into the centre of the cake should come out clean. Leave the cake to cool in the tin.

When cool, pierce the cake at intervals with a fine skewer and feed with a little extra brandy. Wrap the completely cold cake in a double layer of greaseproof paper and again in foil and store in a cool place for up to three months, feeding at intervals with more brandy. (Don’t remove the lining paper when storing as this helps to keep the cake moist.)

The week before you want to serve, begin covering the cake.

For the covering, stand the cake upside down, flat side uppermost, on a cake board which is 5cm/2in larger than the size of the cake.

Brush the sides and the top of the cake with the warm apricot jam.

Liberally dust a work surface with icing sugar and then roll out the marzipan to about 5cm/2in larger than the surface of the cake. Keep moving the marzipan as you roll, checking that it is not sticking to the work surface. Dust the work surface with more icing sugar as necessary.

Carefully lift the marzipan over the cake using a rolling pin. Gently level and smooth the top of the paste with the rolling pin, then ease the marzipan down the sides of the cake, smoothing it at the same time. If you are careful, you should be able to cover the cake with no excess marzipan to trim but, if necessary, neatly trim excess marzipan from the base of the cake with a small sharp knife. Cover the cake loosely with baking parchment and leave for a few days to dry out before adding the royal icing.

For the royal icing, whisk the egg whites in a large bowl until they become frothy. Mix in the sifted icing sugar a tablespoonful at a time. You can do this with a hand-held electric whisk, but keep the speed low.

Stir in the lemon juice and glycerine and beat the icing until it is very stiff and white and stands up in peaks.

Cover the surface of the icing tightly with clingfilm and keep in a cool place until needed.

To ice the cake, place all the icing onto the top of the cake. Spread evenly over the top and sides of the cake with a palette knife. For a snow-peak effect, use a smaller palette knife to rough up the icing.

Leave the cake loosely covered overnight for the icing to harden a little, then wrap or store in an airtight container in a cool place until needed.

Have a wonderful week ahead dear friends xx
