Class 142 'Pacer' 2 car Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) 142064 as operated by Northern Rail at Shildon Station in County Durham (UK) with a Bishop Auckland to Saltburn service train.
Shildon Station is on the route of the world's first steam locomotive railway, the Stockton and Darlington Railway which dates from 1825 although nowadays the railway is either called the Tees Valley Line or Bishop Line which runs from Bishop Auckland to Darlington, Middlesbrough and Saltburn.
This train was completely overwhelmed by the numerous passengers boarding here who had visited Shildon National Railway Museum and the Great Goodbye Mallard 75 event so thank you to Northern Rail for not laying on extra units and trains to and from the museum as promised.
The Class 142 Pacer units with their atrocious noise, vibration, harshness (NVH) and general ambience levels do nothing to enhance the image of the railways in this area in my opinion.
Class 142's have been in service since 1985/7 and are thankfully due for withdrawal by 2020.

142.365 - Here's another filler from a year ago (May 19, 2012). Today I failed once again to get a good picture. Not because I was too busy, but because I procrastinated until I was too tired to do anything. Tomorrow I pledge to do better!!
Anyway, I couldn't believe when I came across these photos that I hadn't uploaded any of them! There are so many from that shoot that I really like! There are at least a couple more I will upload at some point, probably as fillers!
Ahhhhh, the Class 142 Pacer............. I detest them
The British Rail built Class 142 Pacer diesel multiple units, also called Nodding Donkeys, used in the United Kingdom. 96 units were built by BREL in Derby between 1985 and 1987, powered by Cummins LTA10-R 6-cylinder 10-litre engine.
They were initially built for use on rural branch lines but from 2011 they were used on busy commuter routes in the major cities in the north of England. happily under the Disability Discrimination Act drawn up in the mid-1990s, all public transport will need to be accessible by 2019 and Pacers are unable to meet this requirement so will have to be withdrawn by the end of 2019 (smile).
I took this yesterday, but I wasn't able to upload seeing it was Valentines day, and I didn't get home until very late. Me and Chris went out for dinner and saw the movie "Silver linings Playbook". It was actually really good, better than I expected.
