Didn't have to do much on post-processing in order to get to this result. Setting the overall tone and pre-sharpening during Raw Conversion seemed enough for a jumpstart in PS this time. Levels, Curves and Selective Color contrast enhancement including one last post-sharpening with USM for the low-res screen version.
This one took about 15 minutes. Did I mention that I still have hundreds of shots like this - and counting - waiting somewhere on my harddrive to be treated some time :)

Exposure settings: f/4, 3 sec (3), ISO 250, 12 mm
Pre-processing: Pre-sharpened and tone-corrected different RAW files during pre-processing stage. Multiple Tonemapped versions were used to manually blend them together with different layer modes and layer masks in Photoshop.
Post-processing: Local colour contrast enhancement with the Color Balance-, Selective Color-, and Curves Adjustment Layers in post-processing stage. In fact, more then 40 layers were used to get mood I wanted.
Final touch-ups: Post-sharpening with the High Pass filter in Vivid Color layer mode. Burning & Dodging applied to some parts on the image. [Edit:] Different textures have been removed to keep the sky clean :)

Daily Tip: I often use Burning & Dodging on a new 50% gray filled Overlay-neutral color layer to enhance details in the lighter and darker parts of the image. If this is new to you, try it once and you will use it all the time from now on.
Hold the Alt key and click on the New Layer icon in the bottom of the Layers panel. A dialog appears for this new layer appears. Set its Mode to Overlay and click the Fill with Overlay-neutral color (50% gray) option and hit OK.
A new gray layer appears on top of your stack. Hit D first to set the foreground color to black and background color to white. Press the letter B to invoke the Brush tool and use a larger size brush - maybe about 100 for high res images - and hold the shift key and press number 1 to set its opacity on 10%. In addition, to to make the brush smaller or larger use the bracket keys: [ and ]. To harden or soften the brush by 25% use the same bracket keys and hold the Shift key simultaneously.
Use foreground color to darken and background color to lighten certain parts in your image. Press letter X to switch between fore- and background color. Try to paint with short strokes and try to play with the Flow as well by pressing number 0 for 100%, 5 for 50%, and so on. Good luck.
In addition, I'll add new Photoshop Actions to my ActionPack from time to time. When a new Action had been added, I'll add the word : update within the download link.

Description: Taken on the same evening as the previous post, the light was just beautiful. No HDR, No DRI, and No really fancy processing involved except for tonal color contrast enhancements.
Well, here's a quick catch: I opened one RAW file and processed it to three Black & White versions, because initially I wanted to convert this single shot to B/W anyway.
Here are three final b/w exports which I used on seperate layers. With vArious Layer Blending Modes and opacities I achieved quite the result I was after. When the original exposure is perfect this shouldn't be rocket-science anyway. I used the original shot on top of the layer stack in Color blending mode to get those original colors back into the sence. I finetuned the overal tonal color range with a Solid Color Layer Adjustment to reveal some extra warmth.

Description: I don't carry my 200mm around very often. In fact I almost forgot about the dusty thing. Fortunately it was in my new bag this evening when I saw this pretty unusual sky with this little church - which I shot from up close a couple of minutes before - making the scene complete. It was a pretty unusual evening as well, with the moon almost as bright as the sun at given moments revealing extraordinary light all over the place. Or would this this be the infamous Dutch Light phenomena where people - mostly Dutch - talk about, huhuh :-?
Anyway, it was a nice exercise for me again and I must admit it was fun too! For some reason my 200mm has always scared the kicks out of me, because I never really had any success using it in the past. Obviously, the only optics I've ever used were in the range from 12mm to 55mm for my landscape scenes. No doubt I'll now carry around the 200mm permantly as well!

Location: Zuidbroek, in the province of Groningen, the Netherlands.
Description: On January 1, 2007 Zuidbroek had 3,897 inhabitants. This village has a monumental Crusade church from the thirteenth century in Romanogothic style. A separate tower from this church has served as a prison - not in this picture. More information can be found here - currently only in Dutch.
Exposure settings: f/10, 0.013 sec (1/80), ISO 100, 12 mm
Pre-processing: Pre-sharpening, contrast enhancement, retouch, color-correct, interpolate and tone-corrected a couple of different versions of one RAW file in Lightroom, that were exported to 16-bit TIFF files for manual blending in Photoshop afterwards.
Post-processing: Local colour contrast enhancements with Curves-, Levels & Selective Color Adjustment Layers. Because the sky was somewhat too bright for the scene I had in mind, I used a Gradient Adjustment layer to darken the upper parts of the image gradually.
Final touch-ups: Post-sharpening with the High Pass filter in Soft Light layer mode. The addition of textures and Burning & Dodging on a 50% gray-filled layer as usual - see previous Tip.

The eastern side of the Loch Ness is a barren, desolate thing with lots of mountains and lack of civilization. I don't think there were even any street lights, just a road that happened to be there, which just happened to pass by this perfectly still, reflective lake during a fiery sunset*.
* Might not have been a lake, just a puddle. I'm not even sure where this was, forgot to log its position.

Location: Papenburg, in the district of Emsland in Lower Saxony, Germany
Description: Located on Emsland's border with Ostfriesland, Papenburg was the most distant fortress of Niederstift Muenster. It was referred to twice in mid-15th century documentation at which time it was located in Kirchspiel Voellen in Ostfriesland. Catholic services were held in Papenburg from 1668 until 1671 by the Meppen-based Jesuits and from 1680 on through Aschendorf-based Franciscans. The first Catholic church was built in Papenburg 1674-78 and named St Antonius von Padua after the patron saint of the Aschendorf-based Franciscans. This became a parish in 1680. The church, which was enlarged in 1777/78, was used until a new church was built 1873-77. St. Antonius Parish records for baptisms, marriages and deaths exist from 1677-78.

The original plan was to make a HDR image out of this one, so I have lots of different bracketed NEF files lying around somewhere on my harddrive. After tonemapping various exposures I saved the resulting images to 16-bit TIFF files, which I was planning to blend manually in Photoshop afterwards. However, I didn't stick to this plan however, as I used only one retouched version from Lightroom which was being processed further in Photoshop - without correcting the 'dramatic' effect of the wide-angle distortion.
Pre-processing: Pre-sharpening, contrast enhancement, retouch, color-correct, interpolate and tone-corrected a couple of different RAW files in Lightroom. These versions were exported to 16-bit TIFF files for manual blending in Photoshop afterwards.
Post-processing: Local colour contrast enhancements with Curves-, Levels & Selective Color Adjustment Layers. Solid Color Adjustment Layers were used for selectively painting colour on different parts such as the grass surface, trees and sky.
While I was working on this image I thought of the idea of writing a "Making Of..." some day since there was some kind of 'digital matte painting' involved as well. Perhaps a nice idea for the next couple of weeks/months.
Final touch-ups: Post-sharpening with the High Pass filter on a 70% Desaturated merged copy in Soft Light layer mode. The addition of textures and Burning & Dodging on a 50% gray-filled layer as usual - see previous Tip.
