Loveland Pass is just short of 12000 feet high, above the treeline. Many Colorado mountains peak out over 14000 feet..

A shot from a long ago trip to Chandra Taal (Mooon Lake) in Lahaul Valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh,India in September 2014.We were at an altitude of around 14000 feet here and I remember I could barely function due to the high altitude and lack of oxygen.:-)

This Rocky Mountain Bighorn Ewe was seen in a group of eight ewes descending from the top of Mount Hood (14000 feet). We were at 12000 feet.

A shot from a long ago trip to Lahaul & Spiti valley in the state of Himachal Padesh,India.Near Chandra Taal lake at at altitude of around 14000 feet above sea level.
It is while standing in awestruck silence in a place like this that man comes to terms with his own insignificance before the vastness of nature and feels the presence of the Divine.
I might have uploaded a similar shot earlier but since many new friends have joined me since then I thought I would share it again.

This lake is the largest elevation lake in North America. Shoreline is 141 miles long, and the surface is 132 sq miles.
A portion of the lake sits in a crater that was formed by a
volcano , then filled by a glacier, 14000 years ago.
This photo was taken at an area of wild fire destruction.
Still a beautiful sight !!!
Chandra Tal or Lake of the Moon is situated at an altitude of around 14000 feet in Lahaul & Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh.The name comes from the crescent shape of the lake .It is very close to the high altitude Kunzum pass connecting the Lahaul & Spiti valleys.The colours here are natural .The man standing looking down at the lake might give you an idea of the grand scale of the landscape.We had to walk for about 200m- 300m or so to reach this spot from where we had parked our vehicle .I felt so exhausted by then that I did not have the energy to walk down to the shores of the lake.That is high altitude for you.:-)

I always enjoy our family vacation to Perth becos all love living by the sea. The sunset there is something to die for. Even the locals will walk from the inland homes to the beach to end their day with the gorgeous sunset. Sit there just watch the sun minute by minute disappear beneath the horizon. Just let all you worries melt sway with the sunset.

J783 crawls up Botkins Hill and passes the signals at the north end of Botkins siding. With neatly 14000 tons on their drawbar, the SD40-2/SD40-3 combo are making sure everyone knows EMD's can still get the job done.
Nestled between the Kanchendzonga Biosphere Reserve on its north and the Singalila National Park on its South, the sanctuary stretches over an area of about 104 sq km on the Singalila range of the Eastern Himalayas in West Sikkim. Ranging from an altitude of about 7000 to 14000 feet, the flora of the sanctuary ranges from broadleaf and coniferous forests to alpine meadows.
Barsey was declared a protected sanctuary in 1996. Teeming with flora and fauna of numerous varieties, the star attraction of the sanctuary however, is the rhododendron. Out of the total 1000 or so varieties of this evergreen tree, 600 alone can be found at Barsey. Besides a variety of shrubs, the vegetation in Barsey is also dotted with oaks, bamboos, primulas, pine and magnolias.
The sanctuary is also home to several species of animals including the elusive red panda, the Himalayan black bear, leopards, palm civet, serow, crestless porcupine, Chinese pangolin, Assamese macaque and birds such as yellow-throated marten, crimson-horned pheasant and woodpeckers. We were just a little too early to enjoy the beauty of the blooming rhododendrons. Instead, we shivered in the misty morning as we searched for the completely elusive wildlife. We did find some birds and we had lunch at the dormitory-style hostel at the centre of the sanctuary. Although we did not find the Red Panda, it was a magical day in this beautiful place.

Before we went to PEI a couple of weeks ago I bough a new wide angle lens(24-105) for my Sony camera. It is about the same size as my macro lens, which I had on the camera, so I switched lenses because PEI is a great place for landscape photos. When I went to use it for this scene, didn't I discover I had made the switch in reverse and there I stood, gazing at a gorgeous sunset with a macro lens on the camera! So, all I could do was try for some panoramas. This one is 4 shots merged in Lightroom, so the final file is huge! Almost 14000 pixels wide..

Each year Australia votes on Bird of The Year from a short list of 50 birds (The Guardian and BirdLife Poll). A total of 450,000 votes were cast. The idea of the Vote is to engage people with their local birds, tease out the relationship that many people have with their feathered neighbours.
This year the Superb Fairywren took the crown with almost 14000 Votes (just nudging out the Tawny Frogmouth by a few votes). It’s easy to see why these little “fluff balls of joy” took out first place with the beautiful, iridescent blue of the male, especially during the breeding season.
Fun Fact-Superb Fairywren dads that sing to the eggs get more attentive chicks! They also steer clear of danger by listening to the warning calls of other birds.
