Aboutme

Macro Mondays was a group I really enjoyed in 2016. I liked many of the themes for their challenges to creativity. For this week's theme, "Redux 2016--My Favorite Theme of the Year" I wanted to go back to "One of these things (is not like the others)". I like that theme because it seems to celebrate individuality. I wanted to pair it with a theme I didn't get to do, so I chose "Hearts". I'm not sure I have an actual favorite, but here's to more Macro Mondays...

Stay Young At Heart

Aboutme

6319 and 3016 with train 217 in tow find some sun at Somerdale on the dreary day of 12/26/16.

Shortly after coming on duty, the W&LE 217 crew in the 6319 pulls 100 loads west out of Wayco Siding at Hopedale on the afternoon of 12/26/16.

This time last year, this crossing was just a single track in the woods. Today, a now extended Wayco siding crosses here alongside the main, and features a crossover switch just east of the crossing. Four switch indicator signals were installed along with two RC switches. The Hopedale Hanna gas plant is just to the west by US 22, the main reason for all the new trackage. Even the leading 6319 was still the blue 7356 this time last year.

Goodbye 2016. I hope the positives will far outweigh any negatives in 2017...

Happy New Year!!!

Hasta Mañana

The TSS Duke of Lancaster is a railway steamer passenger ship that operated in Europe from 1956 to 1979, and is currently beached near Mostyn Docks, on the River Dee, north-east Wales. It replaced an earlier 3,600 ton ship of the same name operated by the London Midland and Scottish Railway company between Heysham and Belfast.

The plan is to transform the ship into the largest open air art gallery in the UK. As of August 2012, the Latvian graffiti artist "Kiwie" was commissioned to spraypaint a design on the ship. The ship is slowly being covered with graffiti described as "bright and surreal". The first phase of the project saw Kiwie and other European graffiti artists paint murals on the ship between August and November 2012, and the second phase (starting at the end of March 2013) included the work of British-based artists such as Snub23, Spacehop, Dan Kitchener and Dale Grimshaw. One of the artworks is a picture of the ship's first captain, John 'Jack' Irwin.

The Bénédictine Palace, was built in 1898 as a factory for the production of Bénédictine, a sweet alcohol flavoured drink.

The palace is also home to the art collections of the Le Grand family, built up by Alexandre le Grand who developed the recipe for the liqueur Benedictine. The collection is large and includes books, painting, sculptures and even wrought ironwork. The Gothic room contains the library with over a thousand books, many of which came from Fécamp abbey.
