These images are from the second Peace Rally and March that we attended. This one was held on 18 January, 2003.
For this event I used a Mamiya 7 with an 80mm f4 rangefinder 120 format camera and Kodak TMax100 120 film that was souped in Kodak D76 (my favorite developer).
The Mamiya 7 was the sharpest 120 format camera I ever used. It operated like a giant leica and the shutter was a nice and silent leaf shutter. I had three lenses, two of which I used and one I used once. The 80mm f/4 was by far the most used, followed by the 50mm f/4. The beautifully sharp 150mm was used, unfortunately, only once during the time I owned the system. The whole thing got sold as I transitioned to digital.

Pentax 645, SMC Pentax-A 75/2.8, Ilford Delta 120 format film, ISO 100, f4 - 1/60, Epson V500 scanner.
These events were large enough that it was difficult to capture the sense of dynamic energy, except in isolation, subject by subject or person by person. And, I was getting better at walking into the scene to be in the midst of everything. The photos were becoming more "engaged" as I became more part of the "scene." Practicing as a street photographer was an interesting experience.
For this event I used a 120 film format Noblex camera. It had a 50mm lens and a motor-driven module that swiveled the lens, just like early large format panorama/group-photo cameras. It's a rather specialized piece of equipment that can be difficult to work with, but I wish I'd kept it (much like I wish I'd kept at least one of my Rolleiflex TLRs). Kodak TMax400 souped in D76 was still my preferred combination for photography under typical Portland gray skies.
There are a couple things going on here that I would like to point out.
First, by 2004 I was starting to loose my sense of timidity. I learned I could ask people if I could take their photo and nearly always I was granted my wish. People posed nicely for me and it was great fun.
Second, for processing these images I've moved away from the "Hollywood style" pasty white skin processing (where everything is shoved to the left) to bringing down the tones a little to see if I can't get a better sense of richness.
I used a Mamiya 7 + 50mm f4 rangefinder 120 format camera and Kodak TMax400 120 film that was souped in Kodak D76 (my favorite developer). Looking at these images I realize just how nice that 50mm was. I was able to get closer to my sujects and there's a sense of contrast that I find rather pleasing.
