It was one of those golden late mornings where the sun wasn’t just shining it was flattering. Yazerine, feeling herself in her brand new “GIMMIE DAT” set from Catarsis, slid into the driver’s seat, keys in hand and edges laid to perfection. Her mood was set: a quick drive, good coffee, and hopefully a little treat or two...

The British Rail Class 11 was applied to a batch of diesel shunting locomotives built from April 1945 to December 1952, based on a similar earlier batch built by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) between 1939 and 1942.

The fourteen locomotives were built for the War Department, with the first ten subsequently going the Nederlandse Spoorwegen as NS 501–510. LMS numbers 7120–7129 went straight into LMS stock, with 7129 being the last diesel shunter to be built for the LMS. British Railways continued to build the class from 1948 to 1952, using numbers M7130–M7131 and 12045–12138. 7120–7129 and M7130–M7131 became BR numbers 12033–12044. The whole class of 12033–12138 became Class 11. Locomotives up to 12102 were built at LMS/BR Derby and 12103–12138 at BR Darlington.

Close to 100 almost identical machines were built by English Electric and supplied to Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) as their 500 Class & 600 Class diesel locomotives. Sixty-five of the 600 Class locomotives were built by English Electric between 1950 and 1957, numbered 601–665, at either Dick, Kerr & Co. Works (601–610) in Preston or Vulcan Foundry Works (remainder) in Newton-le-Willows.

Another export order was to Australia, with 16 locomotives built for use on 5 ft 3 in (1,600 mm) broad gauge in 1951. Victorian Railways bought ten as the F class, while six were bought by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria.

The diesel engine is an English Electric 6-cylinder, 10-inch bore by 12-inch stroke (254 mm by 305 mm); 4-stroke, 6KT and the traction motors are two: EE506 axle-hung, nose-suspended, force-ventilated traction motors with 21.7:1 double reduction gear drive. The main generator is an English Electric EE801, 441 A at 430 V.

The following locomotives are, or were, at Harry Needle Railroad Company (HNRC):

12077 at Midland Heritage Railway

12083 at Battlefield Line Railway

12093 at Caledonian Heritage Railway

12099 at Severn Valley Railway

12131 at North Norfolk Railway

12139 at North Yorkshire Moors Railway

A ninth example 12049 (renumbered from 12082) is preserved at the Watercress Line in Hampshire. At one time it was re-registered as 01553, in TOPS Class 01/5, carried both numbers and was owned by the Harry Needle Railroad Company. 12082 was renumbered to 12049 in October 2010 and painted in BR green with a late crest but without the yellow/black ends. This was as a replacement for the original Mid Hants locomotive 12049 that was scrapped after suffering catastrophic damage during an engine shed fire on 26 July 2010.

The snow bunting is a sparrow-sized bird that breeds in the Arctic (from Scandinavia to Canada), and winters in the UK, mainly around the coast. There are also some resident snow buntings in the UK, which breed in Scotland. Snow buntings build their nests in rock crevices on bare mountain slopes or rocky shores and lay four to six eggs.

Yesterday on Princess Street in Manchester City Centre Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 Hybrid MX60BVR set on fire, the bus was in service at the time, but the driver and passengers on board managed to get off the bus without harm. The bus pictured here at around 1130 just after the road re-opened and the fire engine left the scene.

This is the 4th such occurrence in Greater Manchester since Christmas Eve 2016, it currently hasn't been reported what the issue is and if they are connected or not. It is also not know what will happen with this bus yet, as the damage seems to be confined to the bottom rear of the bus.

Finally, the dream comes true for all rail lovers as India’s First and New High-Speed Semi Bullet Train rolling down at its maximum and even open for commercial use on 05-April-2016.

Seen here is 1997 make of Asea Brown Boveri Ltd (ABB), imported from Switzerland, Ghaziabad (GZB) WAP-5 # 30007 aka Bond, curving in and out with ultimate dust storm at 160 Kmph towing 12 LHB coaches of India’s First and New High-Speed Semi Bullet Train, 02050 Hazrat Nizamuddin - Agra Cantt., Gatiman Express Inaugural Special. Train covered 188 Kms in between these two cities in just 100 minutes with ARS (average running speed) 112.80 Kmph. In return, it took 99 minutes as per news with ARS of 113.94 Kmph. Notice all eyes are on this spectacular show stopper; few even seen clapping seeing such action. Everyone either busy in shooting this train or taking selfie while it’s passing by.

In normal commercial run this train will run six days a week (excluding Friday). 12050 will depart NZM at 08:10 in morning with arrival of 09:50 AM at AGC and in return, 12049 will depart AGC at 05:50 in evening with arrival of 07:30 PM at NZM. As of now, locomotive 30007 seems to be paired up with Gatiman Express as we saw same combo on next day too. At last after lot of hurdles, with time and motion study, NR decided to run this train from Nizamuddin instead of New Delhi which has 7 Kms of distance and dense traffic too. So till the time India, do not see any new High-Speed train, Gatiman will remain as New King of Speedster followed by Bhopal Shatabdi which is merely 10 Kms behind and cloaks at 150 Kmph. We took ride in this train on very next day and video for the same will be posted soon.

A flooding issue down Oxford Road around the University of Manchester last week has forced services to divert around.

This means an abunance of services are seen down roads which usually would see limited service or a different service entirely operate.

Seen down Grafton Street is E400H Magic Bus livery painted 12049 unusually on service 43 to Piccadilly from the AIrport.

Thought to have been taken at Old Oak Common c1966 he have Class 11 shunter 12049 and Hymek D7026.

12049 was new from Derby Works to Crewe South on the last day of 1949 and withdrawn in October 1971. After industrial use the loco was preserved by the Mid Hants but was unfortunately destroyed by a fire inside the carriage works in 2010 and the remains cut up by EMR Kingsbury.

The Mid Hants have replaced it with 12082 which was working last Friday.

In Harry Needle Railroad Company orange/grey, Ex BR Class 11 12082 (Tops No. 01553) was stored at Long Marston on June 9th 2007. The loco was one of a batch of 120 built by the LMS & BR between 1945-1952. 12082 had been built at Derby Works in November 1950 and went new to Carlisle Kingmoor shed. It was withdrawn from service from Llandudno Junction shed (6G) in August 1970. 12082 had a second working life at U.K.F Fertilisers at Ince Marshes and eventually became a HNRC loco. Following a fire at the Mid Hants Railway in 2010 which damaged Class 11 12049 beyond repair, 12082 was sold to the Mid Hants and was restored and renumbered to 12049.

The sea was noisy last night meaning a northerly pressure wave had come through Cook Strait and hitting the coast here.

I headed to the beach after dropping my wife off at her first job and while not overly cold there was a wind chill with the strong northerly blowing.
