Strawberries, at last!
This is the first time I've encountered strawberries here, and I'm glad. I used to eat them every week/whenever they put them out at Rice. They're smaller than what I'm used to, but I won't complain. I wound up getting these for free. You see, the city 4H Club had samples at the Tome Industrial Festival. I was with Miyu and MW ("Maiyu") at the time so our group attracted some attention (MW being the obvious gaijin and me with my panda hat). Anyway, I made note to buy some when I was going back home, but they were sold out. The guys were nice enough to give me the bag they used for samples. Yay for being a foreigner!
"Ichigo" is "strawberry" in Japanese. It's also a name so there's potential for humor when you name a tough character that, like Ichigo/Ichiko from Kamikaze Girls (she's the Yanki) and Ichigo Kurosagi from Bleach. In the latter case, the name actually means "protector" (much more suitable for a guy). There's another pun associated with his name: his sisters call him "Ichi nii-san", which sounds like "1, 2, 3." Don't you love homophones?
