66250 slowly crosses the level crossing at Cambois in Northumberland with a train of imported coal, running a 6E10, the 1910 Battleship Wharf to Cottam.

Pronounced by locals as ‘Camis’, Cambois is a surprising railfreight survivor in the 21st century. In the winter of 2018/19, two trains per day of imported coal continued to operate to the UK’s diminishing number of coal-fired power stations. In addition, 3 trains of imported alumina ore per week are shipped from here to the aluminium smelter at Fort William.

The photograph is taken from the edge of the site of the former Blyth Cambois depot.

The volume of coal traffic in this area in British Rail days justified a depot exclusively to serve coal traffic from local collieries, to the adjacent power stations and to the export staithes that existed on both banks of the nearby river Blyth.

However, the death of the British coal industry first killed the export traffic and latterly closed the local collieries. The depot closed in 1996 and the power stations in 2001, having latterly been supplied by imported coal.

Gazing across the horizon from the peaks of Shenandoah National Park it’s hard to believe you are just 75 miles from the bustle of the US capital...the views and the scenarios here are dazzling.

Karneval or Fasching is the time in the year to put on your funny costumes and have some fun! And we just love that printed paper with the big numbers on it, so just hand it over.

For the 52 Weeks for Dogs "favourite toy" challenge, there is no other toy that Jamie prefers than a good old tennis ball.

I know I've taken a few tennis ball shots for the group, and although she is partial to the squeak of a squeaky toy, and tug on a rope, the tennis ball is the best of the best, so it was the only choice.

I did plan on trying something different with the tennis ball but no ideas presented themselves so I ended up with this.

When I was reviewing the shoot I noticed her crazy popping eyes though this shot isn't the best to show that, and I'm sorry I chopped her foot off, however, I do like the focus and the fact that you can clearly see her 2 bottom front teeth missing - the result of her dedication to the sport - a clash with Texas while ball retrieving back in 2005.
