Shrewton Bustard 10km part2 19th May 2019

This is a photograph from the second annual Duleek & District Athletic Club (D&DAC) "Indaver Duleek 10KM" Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Duleek, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 17th August 2014 at 10:00. The road race event was the first event of the town's annual Duleek Fair Day which is held at this time every August. In 2013 Duleek & District Athletic Club decided to launch an annual road race. In 2013 over 500 runners attended which represented a very impressive achievement for a new club and a new race. The feedback was very positive from all quarters: a good route, professional approach to organisation, excellent goody-bags and post race refreshments and family entertainment. The club surpassed itself in 2014 with a superb race - with every aspect of the race professionally attended to. Just under 500 runners attended this year. Duleek & District Athletic Club (D&DAC) was founded in March 2012 with the principal aim of promoting athletics in the village and environs of Duleek. The Club’s purpose is to facilitate the enjoyment of athletics in a fun and social environment. Overall the conditions were very favourable for road racing - there was a fairly strong headwind for runners to contend with for the first 3KM along with some undulating countryside. However the final 5KM had a tail wind a good deal of downhill to make for a more enjoyable final half of the race. Everyone at Duleek & District Athletic Club and the local community must be congratulated at their work and organisation today. This race is likely to grow quickly over the next few years.

This photograph is part of a larger set of photographs which was taken today at the event - the majority of these photographs are from the finish line: Please see the full set on the Flickr album at Set from today: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157646478274516/ - This set contains shots of participants up to a finish time of 60 minutes.

What is the race route?

The race starts just beyond Duleek GAA Club on the Navan Duleek road (the R150). The first two KM are on this road until the course makes a right turn and heads northward through Kellystown and Rahill until just after 4KM the course turns right again and due east to begin the return to Duleek. This brings the runners through the large townland of Downstown. Up to the 9KM mark the race has been predominantly ran on scenic rural roads until the race joins the R15O Navan Road again and proceeds directly up the main street of Duleek for the finish.

This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

The is a photograph from the start of the 13th running of the Fields of Athenry 10KM took place on St. Stephen's Day, December 26th 2014 at 11:00 in Athenry, Co. Galway, Ireland. Just under 1,200 participants finished the race today under the Medieval Arch in the town. The weather was certainly not for the faint hearted. With temperatures of about 3C and a biting wind mixed with rain participants had to endure a very very cold race day morning. Heavy rain during the previous night had seen some flooding on the road between 6KM and 9KM. Regardless of this, as always, The Fields of Athenry Road Race rose to the challenge.

This is one of the leading 10KM road races in Ireland. It is hard to believe that the race is "only" thirteen years old. It's superb organisation, atmosphere, and great race history gives it the characteristic of a race that is many years older. The credit for this goes to the wonderful athletics club in Athenry AC and the Race Director for 2014 Frank Burke and his team of volunteers. The attention to every detail in the race which this year attracted over 1,200 participants means that the race has earned it's stripes as one of the leading road races in Ireland. This year the race coupled with Athenry Tidy Towns Committee. A contribution from the proceeds from this year's race will be made to support the work of the Tidy Town Committee.

The race started at the Railway station and then took in a loop of the famous fields of Athenry where it turns left and begins it's return to the town, passing the soccer club, over the railway lines, and finishing under the medival arch in Athenry town for a fittingly atmospheric finish to the race. Race HQ is in the Presentation College in Athenry. Post race showers, prize giving ceremony, and refreshments were provided in the College after the race.

We have a very extensive set of photographs from this year's event. The link to the full set of photographs on this Flickr photostream is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157649881213766. There are some photographs of the race start and photographs of the race finish from the 1st across the line until the 50 minutes finish time. It just got too cold to continue at this point.

This is a photograph from the finish of the 41st Michael Manning Memorial "Dunshaughlin 10KM" Road Race and Fun Run which took place in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, Ireland on Saturday 18th June 2022 at 19:30. Much has happened in the world since the last hosting of the race in June 2019. However, the Dunshaughlin 10KM took off from where it left off in 2019 with one of the fastest 10KM races held in Ireland on the roads in many years. This race is widely acknowledged within the Irish running community as one of the best races in Ireland and is Ireland's oldest continuously held 10KM race. This year, as in previous years, the race attracted runners from not just all of Leinster but from the four corners of Ireland. The work of the organising committee must be commended on making this event possible. The Dunshaughlin 10KM has earned it's place at the top of the pedestal of Irish running through the sheer hard work of Dunshaughlin AC over the years. Road race events do not survive on their own. There must be dedication, hard work and a development vision amongst the committee and the host club. Well done to all.

Given some structural changes to the finish area location in recent years there was a small change to the finish area moving back around 140m from its usual location. The route starts on the town bypass and proceeds eastwards into Dunshaughlin village itself. The race then takes a left turn and follows a northerly direction towards Ratoath. At approximately 5.7K the race turns off this road into a small downhill section. After another 400m the race takes a right turn and turns southerly to head back to Dunshaughlin. At this point the only two significant hills of the race are encountered. From here the race is a straight route right back to the finish in Dunshaughlin village. The race carries on its own fine long tradition but also that of the many very well known and well attended Meath Athletic Club road races which are hosted in the county over the year.

The weather was warm and almost perfect conditions for road running. The warming tailwind at for the first 3 to 4 miles turned into a stiff breeze on the faces of the field heading back to the finish line. There is an extensive set of photographs from the race tonight taken at 6 mile mark. The full set is available at: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72177720299912860. As in previous years, the race was part of the Kia Race Series. Event management and Chip Timing provided by Popup Races.
