Two Westerns sitting quietly inside Old Oak Common depot in the early hours.
The staff at Old Oak were very generous and allowed us to roam and take pictures wherever we wanted.
It took a bit of tactful pleading as they said there would be plenty of chance during the day. The pleading was that the crowds would be out in numbers, so they relented.
They even opened the depot doors to make it possible to get a better view.
I think it was about 4am so possibly anyone sane was asleep or still making their way to London for the last Western run under BR rule.
I am convinced at least one of us was using a tripod to get the images which we probably left in the car while travelling on the sad farewell tour.
The paintwork has an unusual lustre although it could be down to the unusual lighting conditions.
The presence of fire extinguishers is evident, although not the usual red variety.
It is all different round here now. HS2 has helped see to that change.

Notes :- New to First London (CentreWest) as their VN37912 and registered BF60VHP, 09/2010. It would pass to Metroline on the sale of the CentreWest business. It would be re-numbered to VW1855. On withdrawal from London service it would be purchased by Lothian Buses. It underwent a major refurbishment along with 50 others. It entered service with Lothian as fleet number 1023 carrying registration LXZ5408. It is currently allocated to Central garage and is seen here working a 29 to Gorebridge.
Two greats at the cross.1023 sits on the blocks at Kings cross with 55.012 having worked the WLA's "Western talisman" to York.
1023 passes through Twyford at speed.The sign to the right used to be worded "You are in the Strong country",a reference to the brewery.There was a similar one at Slough as l recall.
Reading Buses 1023, YN06NXS, a Wright Solar bodied Scania L94UB seen in Reading with a 9 service to Shinfield Park.
5/12/76. Rated by many as the finest of the Western farewell tours,1023 rests after it's first leg from Paddington. The tour was to visit Newquay,Fowey Carne Point and Falmouth.
1056 Western Sultan was to play a starring role by working the Newquay branch and top and tail with 1023 on the other 2 before working back to Paddington.
Eurofighter Typhoon backtracking down runway 25 for its ferry flight to Saudi. Caught in some heavy rain, hence why I went northside to get a change of scenery. 10 minutes after this shot we had clear blue skies!!
