Little Glen Lake, taken from the top of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, with circular polarizing filter.

Over one million people visit the dunes each year, leaving behind their footprints in the sand, footprints that are obliterated by the gentlest of breezes.

On June 6, 1912 a volcano later named Novarupta sent ash into the sky as high as 20 miles. Ash and pumice from the eruption also rushed down the Ukak River valley as pyroclastic flows and surges moving at more than 100 miles per hour, transforming the valley into 40 square miles of barren ash. Heat trapped in the ash took decades to cool. Any water buried by the ash or that percolated into it flashed into steam. The vents where the superheated steam emerged became the fumaroles that inspired the name Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. (National Park Service)

I got a package in the mail from a fellow railfan (thanks!). One of the items I received is a beat up copy of The Freight Train Book. The above photo is my favorite from the book. I liked it so much, I decided to share it with the masses.

I am posting the picture that spoke to me this morning. It has so many technical problems but it represents the purest of my intentions. Every day I make another mistake when shooting and I am learning and finding value from the process. Today's error was forgetting to change auto ISO to manual so my camera chose crazily high which created all sorts of noise. There is something very difficult for me about showing my flaws and most authentic self. I guess we all want to be good at something and protect our fragile egos. Today I am taking a big step for me and highlighting my mistakes. We all make mistakes and it is okay. I'll keep repeating this to myself and let it sink in until I believe it. I must be a good example to my kids, trying to be perfect can create unrealistic expectations and great anxiety.

diecimila grazie a tutti voi che, con un click, vi siete affacciati così tante volte sul mio spazio ed il mio tempo mentre si fingono immagini.

mi siete stati simpatici fin dal primo momento.

My Flickr journey started back in 2012, 9999 uploads later I looked back through the thousands of archived shots to try and decide what to choose for the 10000th.

After a long time I decided to go back to my first ever shots in NZ and naturally they were of aircraft but not good enough quality to post. The SE5A's shown here are the same aircraft that I saw at my first ever airshow back in November 2008. Back then I had never seen any WW1 biplanes and couldnt believe the spectacle before me.

It has been a wonderful journey and I look forward to what I might get to photograph next. (I have a good idea as I'm off to see something new tomorrow!)

In closing, I would like to thank all of you who have taken the time to look at, fave and comment on my photographs.

Although I admit I have no idea what 10,000 views means. It says 10,000 views at the top of my screen but I have 10,000 views just in my top ten photos, not counting the 1,000 other photos. So I don't get it.

Class W1 No. 10000 at Doncaster c. 1938. It had been rebuilt in 1937 from the experimental four cylinder compound "Hush-Hush" which was built in 1929 but never particularly successful, but unlike all the other streamliners was never named and was withdrawn in 1959 as BR No. 60700.
