Arrowsic Island, Maine.

Doubling Point Light is a lighthouse on the Kennebec River in Arrowsic, Maine. It was established in 1898, fifteen years after the founding of the Bath Iron Works, a major shipbuilder, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) upriver. It was part of a major upgrade of the river's lights — the Doubling Point Light and the separate Range Lights on the point, Perkins Island Light, and Squirrel Point Light were all built at the same time. The light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Doubling Point Light Station on January 21, 1988. It remains an active aid to navigation.

The Doubling Point Light is located on the lower Kennebec River, at a point where the normally south-flowing river makes a sharp turn to the east, followed by a turn back to the south. The light is set at the inside corner of the first of these turns, on the west side of Arrowsic Island, roughly opposite the mouth of Winnegance Creek. The light station includes a tower, keeper's house, shed, and oil house. The tower is an octagonal wood-frame structure, finished in wooden shingles, with an iron walkway around the lantern chamber. It is accessed via a three-span footbridge.

Near the tower is the keeper's house, an L-shaped 1+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure with hip-roofed porches. Also nearby are the gable-roofed tool shed, built in 1898, and the small brick oilhouse, added in 1906.

The city of Bath, located north (upriver) from this point, had been a major shipbuilding port for much of the 19th century, and the river was a major transportation artery all the way to Augusta. In 1892 the river below Bath was identified by the United States Lighthouse Board as needing improved navigational aids, and a series of improvements were authorized. Funding was made available by Congress in 1895, and Doubling Point Light was built in 1898, along with the keeper's house and shed. The tower did not originally stand at its present location, to which it was moved in 1899, and the keeper's house was moved closer to the tower in 1901. The tower's original lens was a fifth-order Fresnel lens; it was automated in 1988. (Wikipedia.)

Each year the female usually lays four eggs, which hatch asynchronously, 33 or 34 days after laying.

Both parents take turns incubating the eggs and feeding young.

The young leave the nest 58-64 days after hatching, and continue to be fed by their parents during 7-20 days.

The White Storks build a large stick nest in trees, on buildings, or on purpose-built man-made platforms.

Each nest is 1–2 m in depth, 0.8–1.5 m in diameter and 60–250 kg in weight.

There are often nests close to human habitation, nests can be seen on churches and other buildings.

The nest is typically used year after year especially by older males. The males arrive earlier in the season and choose the nests.

Larger nests are associated with greater numbers of young successfully fledged, and appear to be sought after.

Storks have no syrinx and are mute, giving no call; bill-clattering is an important mode of stork communication at the nest.

From the view of our hotel window was this (not limited to though...). When we arrived the light was looking nice, so while I was able to, a took this from the balcony. When processing, I created a square crop, and added in a whole lot of sky. I was particularly inspired by the works of Cuba Gallery, when doing this.

a7rii + Hummel London Kinematograph Projection Lens 1½ inches 1:1.5

This small and rare projection lens was easy to refit for digital. The Ø is about 42mm so I glued a M39>M42 adapter ring to the base of the lens. This ring doubles as helicoid in a slim M42>E-mount adapter. :-) FF is no problem for this 38mm lens.

Endlich wieder Kino!

1st of May and time to photograph this 300 year old Beech tree It has finally turned green after a very cold spring.

Starved Rock Lock and Dam is located about 1.5 miles southeast of Utica, Illinois. It sits 231 miles above the confluence of the Illinois River with the Mississippi river at Grafton, Illinois.

The Opel Blitz 1,5 Ton was a light truck which was introduced in Autumn 1930. It was a very popular truck in the 1930s. It was the most produced light truck in Germany.

This Opel Blitz version was the successor of the former 1,5 Ton light truck. It was the first new designed post-war Opel truck and clearly influenced by the style of GM light trucks from this period.
