A TMNT RARE GEM !

Source : TMNT S02E08- 1988 - "New York's Shiniest".

REX-1 is a character who appears in two episodes of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987 animated series). He is a robot policeman and his name is an acronym for "Robot Enforcement Experiment," the "1" designating his status as the first model produced. His first appearance is in the second season episode, "New York's Shiniest". His only other appearance is in "Leonardo, the Renaissance Turtle".

Created as an experiment to relieve some of the burdens on New York City's human police department. Designed to be unwaveringly loyal to the operator of his remote control. His designs were stolen by Shredder so he could mass-produce an army of robot cops under his own command.

At a warehouse April finds a robotic police officer and named REX-1. She unknowingly activates REX-1, who assumes she is his superior officer. When two security guards discover April's presence, April tries to bluff her way out but the security guards tell her to save her story for the police. REX-1 (Robot Enforcement Experiment) is programmed to protect his "master", who then states that the police have arrived and grabs the security guards, whom he believes is threatening April.

April appreciates REX-1 saving her, but realizes she will be stuck with him at least until she can get her story as he follows her home. REX-1 also proves to be an adept chef, cooking dinner for April, claiming he was programmed to serve his master in all capacities. Irma arrives and is taken with REX-1. Immediately afterwards April is confronted by the security guards from the lab, who also tracked her. Rex-1 draws his laser and shoots the door. Before the smoke has cleared the two guards run. Irma is impressed with how REX-1 defended April and wished she had someone protecting her like that.

As the episode progresses, April brings Rex-1 to the turtles' lair where once again, Donatello's favorite Bo is broken. A fight is about to break out between the Mechanical Officer and the Turtles when April breaks it up and explains the situation, to which the Turtle josh April that when REX-1 followed her home maybe he has a crush on her. April convinces the turtles to scale the Channel 6 News building and kidnap Vernon so he can tape April's news report. The Turtles abduct Vernon by blindfolding him and convincing him he will not be harmed by leading him to their lair to work the technical equipment. During her report, Shredder hacks into the database of police headquarters, steals the plans for the REX-1 and puts into motion his plans for creating an army of robotic police officers to destroy the turtles.

With some help from April and the Ninja Turtles, REX-1 was able to fool the army of evil robots and save the city.

At the very end of the episode, back at April's apartment, it is revealed that Irma is going on a date with REX-1, who now has a more human outlook by saying his mission is to "serve, protect, and take Irma to the movies".

here's a quick question folks, i think im supposed to be on 152, but im on 156. HMMMMMMMMMMM

that's an issue.

1.5 oz. dry gin (Plymouth)

.5 oz. maraschino liqueur (Luxardo)

.5 oz fresh lemon juice

.25 oz crème de violette (Rothman & Winter)

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon peel.

While researching this drink, I was struck by the number of recipes that called for no crème de violette at all, since it's the sky blue tint of this violet liqueur that lends the Aviation its name. According to that great arbiter of world knowledge, Wikipedia, the original recipe published by Hugo Ensslin in 1916 called for crème de violette but the majority of recipes published since omit it entirely, which results in a decidedly earthbound incarnation of an otherwise ethereal drink.

As it turns out, this omission may have been one of necessity rather than of taste, as crème de violette was almost completely unavailable in the US after prohibition and until as recently as 2007. But those of us lucky enough to live in the common era of the classic cocktail renaissance can once again experience the Aviation as it was intended.

And what a beautiful cocktail it is; tinted the color of an azure blue sky, with a balance of flavors that achieves the alchemical magic to which all great cocktails aspire. The key here is the earthy cherry-almond sweetness of the maraschino, which marries the dry botanical gin with the delicate floral notes of the violet liqueur, creating an elegant cocktail that far exceeds the sum of its parts. It is, to use the obvious metaphor, a drink that soars.

I used Gary Regan's recipe but tweaked the amount of crème de violette, as a full half-ounce could easily overpower the other ingredients and send this drink careening into perfume territory. So I struck a balance between his recipe and the scant one teaspoon called for by Rothman & Winter and instead used a quarter ounce, which turns out to be the perfect amount. I can't recommend this drink highly enough.

There was a security incident the prior evening; a nut case smuggled 4 guns and knives into the Comicon with the intent of killing an actor and then cops. The cops got to him first. We knew there would be changes but hoped they would be sensible and logical. They weren't. As in most situations like this, people overreact and common sense is the first casualty. The Comicon initially banned all props which really hit the Cosplay community hard. They set up completely understaffed security access points to enter the Center. I got there early and stood in line for 1.5 hours. Thousands of people arrived later than me and waited outside in the heat for 2-3 hours. It was complete chaos and poorly handled.

Once inside, things got slightly better but it dulled in comparison with prior years. A lot fewer Cosplayers and many of them seemed naked without their props. I understand the need for security but this was a lesson in how not to deal with issues.
