I found a colony of these Tullbergiidae living in amongst the roots of an Orchid that is kept in the utility room. These are very small Collembola and ranged from 0.3mm-0.5mm at a guess. I was messing around with extension tubes etc, some were taken with my MP-E with the 1.4x teleconverter and 108mm of extension tubes and a few with the teleconverter and 168mm of extension tubes.
I have no idea what species these are, I'm not even sure if they are a UK species, as they most probably came in with the Orchid, I suppose it depends whether the Orchid was grown in the UK or was imported.
I'm guessing that this is possibly a Mesaphorura sp.

with this picture I want to start a new series which is inspired by the old tradition of stillife paintings, but in a reduced and clear style. Comments and critics are welcome...

Can build anything out of legos.
Loves to ask questions about everything and has the most wonderful curious mind.
Is NOT a snuggler but gives me lots of hugs so I feel special.
Still hates vegetables but will make a special exception for corn.

Title for those who don't view this on black & large is from the One Penn Plaza sign in the middle. Since I neglected the west view on my last visit to the Empire State Building I felt I had to go back. Plus I have a lot of flickr friends in New Jersey so this is for you guys.. Its just a few blocks from my old job and my new job so not a bad way to relax at the end of the day.
The sunset was a surprise and it made my day. I was very surprised at how it evolved and will post different phases of it over time.
In the foreground is the west side of New York City (Chelsea, One Penn Plaza, Penn Station, and Garment District), then the Hudson River, and finally New Jersey with the Directv Blimp in the right mid-foreground. It has a giant video screen on it which was very Blade Runner like.

I was rather fortunate enough to grab a few frames of this stunning little Yellowhammer while walking through farmland recently. For at least 10 minutes, I had the pleasure to watch this little stunner fluctuate between a nearby hedgerow and the colourful post that he's perched on singing to the world.
