In 2013, Lockheed Martin proposed a successor to the legendary SR-71 Blackbird, which was retired in 1998. The rationale behind this proposal was that there was a coverage gap between surveillance satellites, as one would have to wait for a satellite’s orbit to line up with a target. To be practical, the new aircraft would have to fly faster than the SR-71 to avoid modern air defenses and close that surveillance gap. The proposed concept was a hypersonic stealth UAV that was to be propelled by the simultaneous use of turbojets and scramjets. The SR-72 would have a top speed in excess of Mach 6 or 6751.97 ft/sec (almost twice the top speed of the SR-71’s Mach 3.2). While the IRL SR-72 exists only on paper, Top Gun: Maverick delivered us the first believable hypersonic aircraft on the big screen.

TGM’s take on the SR-72 is a manned hypersonic stealth aircraft with a top speed of around Mach 10. It is important to note that ridiculously fast speed is not entirely Hollywood. In 2004, NASA’s X-43 scramjet reached a record speed of Mach 9.6. In addition, the prop used in filming was constructed by the infamous Skunk Works, and it was so believable that China repositioned a spy satellite to observe it. In conclusion, TGM has shed light on a new, and exciting realm of high-speed aeronautics that is pushing the envelope of what man can do.

Dimensions of the movie prop are unavailable, so I used the IRL SR-72’s reported dimensions. The Darkstar in 1:72 scale would likely be smaller than this model; but nonetheless, I am still very happy with how this model turned out. I am still a little iffy on the windshields, but the only way to achieve the exact shape would be to print it. The model has retractable main gear and the nose gear can be removed, so the underside of the model is flush for “flight”. I hope y'all enjoy it, and happy building!

My collection of Takumar 55/1.8 lenses and associated cameras dating back to 1959, following the recent acquisition of a S3 and Auto-Takumar.

The cameras, from left to right:

Pentax K and Auto-Takumar 55/1.8 (zebra)

Pentax S3 and Auto-Takumar 55/1.8

Pentax Spotmatic SPII and Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 55/1.8

The lenses at the front:

Super-Takumar 55/1.8

SMC Takumar 55/1.8

With different optical/mechanical designs, and different lens coatings (plus radio-active glass for some), the lenses have different characteristics. But they are all very sharp, render beautifully, and all perform very well on DSLRs.

This is not the complete set of Takumar 55/1.8 lens types (there's a rare early auto 55/1.8 version for example), plus some cosmetic variations in numbering/lettering styles on the Auto-Takumar and Super-Takumar versions.

Photographed by a Super-Takumar 35/3.5.

1-я встреча "Парни в коже"

“Once upon a time”

Once upon a time, there was a girl who had a penchant for origami cranes and all things whimsical. She lived in a small kingdom not too far from the sea or the mountains. She wished she could ride off into the sunset on her noble steed and never look back. Problem is, she didn't have one. Yet. Though at one point, she did have her very own knight in shining armor. But she was scared of happily ever after, because that rarely happened in her story. So she ran away. He didn’t come after her, and she didn't know how to get him back.

Once upon a time, this girl decided to begin a year-long project. So she climbed down from her tower and ventured out into the world to take fifty two photographs in fifty two weeks.

I recommend you view this large.

Jason you were right :)

Week 1:

Libra is the only zodiac symbol that's neither animal nor human -- but surely that doesn't make you any less human. In fact, Libra is among the most sociable of the signs. As scales of old were really "balances," so do you seek balance in all that Libra does. You respond to situations with grace as Libra attempts to put others at ease. Artistically, Libra tries to balance form, content, colors and elements, and for this reason can be drawn toward creative endeavors.

Kicking off a weekly collaboration with my fellow libra, the inspiring, gorgeous and amazing Vanessa.

A new year, a new daily self-portrait project.

I struggled coming up with an idea/plan. I needed to be reasonable in finding something I can actually do every single day consistently. I had a few ideas centering around the word "raw." A "this is middle age" sort of chronicle with documentary-style photos and a combination of self-portraits overlaid with garbage from the day were two concepts I pondered. I like overlaying a second image as I did this past year. I loved the ones where I used writing.

Which brought me to this:

A daily self-portrait, any or all of me in it but all probably pretty raw/bare images, with an overlay of a short journal-style entry I write the same day about any thought(s) roaming my brain.

I'm going to try hard to write uncensored and be brave about what I post. This will be by its nature personal and intimate, and probably pretty weird at times too. :)

This is Kirkhill Castle in the small village of Colmonell, in the Stinchar valley of south Ayrshire. Although long roofless, it still stands fairly complete to its wallhead, next to the more modern house that superseded it. There was nobody home when I visited, although I could hear the sounds of lawn mowing coming from the garden behind, so I took a couple of photos from the drive, which show most of what there is to see, and went on my way.

As usual with reflective tape and logos. Custom chromed parts for the compartment door handles and the grille. Really hope you like this new beast. I'm very proud on how the design turned out, especially of the cab.
