Dieser junge Zaunkönig im Unterholz hört seine Mutter rufen und ist deshalb aus seiner Deckung gekommen. Vielleicht gibt es ja gleich etwas zu futtern?

Tech. Detail: Die Belichtungssituation an der Stelle war schwierig, ich habe freihändig mit einer 1/100 Sek. gearbeitet, musste wegen der Nähe zum Zaunkönig auf Blende 7.1 abblenden damit er besser von der Schärfentiefe erfasst wird und bin dann bei ISO 3200 gelandet, die für die 7DII eigentlich zu hoch ist. Die schon erwähnte Nähe zum Piepmatz (kein Ausschnitt!) hat mir dann jedoch geholfen das Bildrauschen etwas zu bearbeiten und ich bin zufrieden wie die Aufnahme herausgekommen ist.

Wer den kleinen Zaunkönig besonders detailreich sehen möchte, drückt die Tasten l (kleines L) und F11. Beim vergrößern nur durch Anklicken gehen viele Details verloren.

Tech Detail: The exposure situation at the place was difficult, I worked freehand with a 1/100 sec., because of the proximity to the wren I had to use an aperture of 7.1 so that it was better captured by the depth of field and then ended up at ISO 3200, which is not really ideal for the 7DII. However, the already mentioned proximity to the birdie (no crop!) helped me to remove the image noise to some extend and I am satisfied with the result.

If you want to see this baby wren with the best resolution in full screen press the "l" (small L) and F11 keys. When enlarging the pic by just mouse clicking you lose quality. Enjoy!

Am 09.09.2020 war mit einer der letzten Tage, an denen ein letzter Hauch "alte Südbahn" zu erleben war.

Südlich von Ravensburg war die Strecke noch nicht mit Oberleitungsmasten bestückt. Lediglich ein Bauzaun zwischen den Gleisen zierte die stolze zweigleisige Hauptbahn im Süden von Baden-Württemberg.

Ein bei der damals noch RAB vorherrschender Lokmangel führte dazu, dass die 218 460 "Conny" der Westfrankenbahn des Öfteren auf der Kbs. 751 anzutreffen war und zwischen den verkehrsroten 218ern/245ern eine nette Abwechslung bot.

An besagtem Tage war der RE4223 von Stuttgart nach Lindau Hauptbahnhof einer der Züge, den die Blondine an den Bodensee brachte.

Nahe Meckenbeuren platzierten wir uns gegen kurz vor 7, um dem Sounderlebnis Zeuge werden zu können.

Im Gegensatz zum Bild der 218 319 am RE in der Geislinger Steige (www.flickr.com/photos/169419367@N08/51975487238/in/datepo...) ist dieses Bild wirklich 1:1 so auf den Sensor gefallen ;-).

A friend gave me this daily calendar for the new 2022 year. I like.

They close the road to Highwood Pass on December 1, so we thought we should try and sneak in one more high elevation hike for the season. We were surprised by a couple of things: all the backcountry skiers, as well as a Columbian Ground Squirrel making an unseasonable appearance. It's not a big mountain, as we gained only just over 600 m's on this 5 km hike. While the summit is at 2726 m's above sea level, we started at a lofty 2100 m's - Highwood Pass is, after all, the highest paved road in Canada!

Limes are super cheap right now - 8 for $1 so we have been obsessing about making fresh limeade with mint. So yummy!

We use a ratio of 1/1/5 for lime juice/sugar/water. Add a little lime zest and mint and you've got yourself a very refreshing drink.

The main purpose of this photo was actually to test out the new filter plug-in for my PS CS3, Nik Software Color Efex Pro 3.1. So what do you think?

Brisbane's Story Bridge from Kangaroo Point the night after the Queensland Rugby League State of Origin team (the Maroons, that's pronounced Mar-owns) were comprehensively beaten by the New South Wales Blues team in Melbourne. So the bridge had to wear the blue in shame! Queensland roundly beat NSW in round 1, so it's a game apiece setting up an exciting third and final match. And I don't even follow Rugby League (sorry)!

That's Felons Brewing under the bridge and to the right - this area was featured in my shots yesterday. Taken from a frustratingly parked out Captain Burke Park on Thursday night.

It's July 1, so here is #1 "The Canadian" over the famous CPR trestle in picturesque Parry Sound. They're down to a crawl speed so that visitors can enjoy the great views of the harbour and Georgian Bay as they approach the old CP station.

Meanwhile, the moose at Tailwinds looks on next to a floatplane sitting idle at the dock. Charter air tours can be booked here and you can even arrive for a meal in your boat with free docking available to customers. The patio is quiet for the moment, but will be packed as soon as schools close and cottage country fills up.

The odd configuration of the dome car first up behind the locomotives is VIA 88703 Banff Park which I believe deadheaded the entire way from Toronto to Vancouver. Fellow photographer Ryan Gaynor is also onboard and along for the ride to the west, taking in the scenes and no doubt behind the camera.

This was the last stop on my little chase of Berkshire and Eastern Railroad train B100 east from Pownal. They would end up sitting east of here for hours while an MofW crew worked to heat up and repair a pull apart on the mainline at Zoar.

They are emerging from the darkness at East Portal after traveling 4.75 miles and 1000 ft beneath Hoosac Mountain deep in the heart of the Berkshire Range. This is MP 415.7 on B&E's former Pan Am Freight Main, the former Boston and Maine Fitchburg Division. Note the little cistern and ice buid up beneath the pipe which drains water along the cliff face at left....I've always found it fascinating, and a great photo element to include when shooting from this side.

Berkshire and Eastern is a Genesee and Wyoming owned company that was created to act as a neutral third party operator of the former Pan Am Southern property as a result of the sale of Pan Am Railways to CSX in 2022. B100 is the symbol B&E uses for the continuation to Ayer of Norfolk Southern train 264 (intermodal 63rd Street Yard in Chicago to Mechanicville) that used to be known as 22K. The train is led by the standard SD60E which is necessary due to it being one of a small fleet of this model equipped with ACSES for operation on the MBTA property east of Westminster. This train is on borrowed time here because one condition of the sale of Pan Am to CSXT in 2022 was the granting of trakage rights to NS for the operation of one daily pair of premium trains (this one and its westbound counterpart) over CSXT's former Boston and Albany route. These trains will then take the old Delaware and Hudson Albany main to Voorheesville, NY and utilize the connection on to Selkirk Branch which has been rebuilt there. From there they will travel east via Selkirk Yard, the Castelton Bridge and the Berkshire and Boston Subs to Worcester and on up to Ayer. Allegedly that routing will commence June 1, so if you want shots of 'the pig train' on the old Boston and Maine the time is now.

i got this little bottle of Coke at Wal Mart tonight and i thought it was just the cutest little thing and it was only $1 so i said hey why not. hahaha

Just spent about 20 minutes writing an essay about how I did this shot and Flickr threw a wobbler and took me back to square 1 so here's a brief outline. Tested exposure, span domes at 45 degree increments. Zoom pulled the street lights then back inside to expose my hands with the beauty dish on 1/64 power.

This is number 314 of my 365.

Here’s a candid I took this morning in Derby city centre.

I was instantly drawn to the potential in the composition and I was planning to use the Leica monochrome style, however, I didn’t have time to switch from the LUT that was already preset.

It’s designated ‘Sample 1’ so I think it might be one that was included with the S5M2, the lens is the S 85mm f1.8.

I tried converting to mono in post, but it lost the warm tonality that I found appealing.

My brush cutting was interrupted by the arrival of Job 1 so unfortunately, i wasn't able to cut the last tree to open up the lakeside of the shot. Years of neglected brush cutting has allowed the brush to grow and what was once a wide open shot of the train and Moosehead lake is now a sliver of the lake between branches.

Four seconds before 8am, and the Winter Park Express is climbing the 2% grade from the base of Coal Creek Canyon up toward Tunnel 1. So far this season, the morning Ski Train has been running on time, and usually arriving Winter Park a few minutes early. The eastbound train has been late more often, but I'm sure skiers would prefer to have the evening train late over the morning train.
