Wandert man durch den Harz sieht man überall die Auswirkungen der in den letzten Jahren fehlenden Niederschläge. Im Harz (und nicht nur dort) ist fast der komplette Fichtenbestand am vertrocknen. Und dann kommt der Borkenkäfer angekrabbelt und gibt den Bäumen den Rest. Im Nationalpark überläßt man dem Borkenkäfer das Feld, nur die Hauptwanderwege und die Brockenbahn werden gesichert.
Hier zwischen Ortsrand von Schierke und Brockenbahnstrecke am unmittelbaren Rand des Nationalparks scheint man forstwirtschaftlich aber doch eingegriffen zu haben.
Im Hintergrund hüllt sich gerade der Wurmberg in Wolken ein.
Pellotsaari is an island in the coastal north-eastern part of the Lake Ladoga area of 486 hectares, belongs to the Ladoga Skerries. It is located on the territory of the Republic of Karelia Sortavala Russia. Dimensions of the island 3 km to 4 km.
On a rocky island preserved a corners of nature, almost untouched by man and landscapes highly altered economic activity. Since 2010 the island, outlines resembling the heart, became famous thanks to the exposition arranged ecological path and a parking place of tourist cruise ships
Aggie making a mighty leap off the snow pile in our back yard. We've had quite the snow fall this year and the pile of snow off the back deck is now over 6 feet high (the fence in the background is a 5 foot fence). Aggie is very agile and had no issues climbing the pile for her tennis ball then taking a quick exit off off the steep side of it.

Sock was not too impressed that his dinner was delayed while I took his photo, which made for an amusing expression from him while he was relaxing in the afternoon sunshine.

Pipit spioncelle (Anthus spinoletta)

Le pipit spioncelle mesure environ 17 centimètres et a une envergure de 23 à 28 centimètres pour un poids d'environ 23 g. Il a un corps gris-brun avec des pattes noires. Il a le sourcil blanc ainsi que les rectrices externes. En période nuptiale, il a la poitrine légèrement rosé. Les deux sexes sont identiques. Les jeunes sont plus tachetés que les adultes.
En hiver, avec sa poitrine rayée, le pipit spioncelle ressemble au pipit farlouse mais il s'en distingue par les cris.
À la belle saison, il vit en altitude et à l'automne, il redescend en plaine au bord des lac, étangs, marais et autres cours d'eau, ce qui lui donne son nom de Water Pipit chez nos amis Anglais !
