STS028-080-030 Kayrakkumskoye Reservoir, Tajikistan August 1989

In the southeastern Turkestan region, political geography is complex, and in places the countries’ boundaries look like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. The borders of no fewer than three independent states—Kyrgystan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan—are intertwined in this near-vertical photograph of an arid, mountainous landscape. The Kayrakkumskoye Reservoir, which was formed by building a dam on the Syr-Dar’ya River, is actually in the country of Tajikistan; some siltation can be seen at the eastern end of the reservoir. After leaving the reservoir, the Syr-Dar’ya River flows first westward and then northerly after it passes the southwestern tip of the Kuraminskiy Mountains. Because the region is classified as semiarid or steppe climate, receiving an average of 20 inches (50 centimeters) of precipitation annually, agriculture in the valleys and the lowlands is possible because snowmelt and water from glaciers are used for crop irrigation. The Kuraminskiy Mountains border the Syr-Dar’ya River Valley to the north where elevations average 9000 feet (2740 meters) above sea level; south of this valley, the more formidable snowcapped Turkestanskiy Mountains, oriented east-west, rise with elevations ranging from 11 000 to more than 16 000 feet (3350 to 4875 meters) above sea level.

St. Mellion Golf Club's 2014 Ladies Captain's Day was hosted by this year's Lady Captain Sue Poole. A full entry with two and a half hours of tee times kept Sue extremely busy. And to keep all those golfers going Sue's husband Alan and daughters Amy & Alice were on hand to dish out free drinks and snacks at the Halfway House. A pleasant if breezy day created a stern test for the lady members. After freshening up the ladies enjoyed tea and cake in the St. Piran Suite followed by presentation of prizes. Well done Sue, a great day.

"The second I tasted your cum, something snapped in my head... I wouldn't mind being this way forever... Do you, Al?~"

We live at the nexus of Tokyo, Yokohama and Kawasaki -- the three largest cities in the Kanto area, and the largest metropolitan area in the world. That means things are pretty dynamic around here. When a shop goes out of business, you generally see another one open in its place within weeks.

Evidently, the same thing seems to apply to signage. I spent an hour walking between my house and Tama Plaza, and I could only find two "ghost ads." One was a sign on a power pole that I photographed in 2014, advertising a long departed liquor store. I feared I might have to repeat myself, but I finally found this ancient bus bench ad for a custom toupee maker. That's it! The only two old signs I found during my hour-long walk.

I could probably find more if I got out into the countryside, but COVID has kept me to my little neighborhood world for a year and a half now, so the countryside will have to wait.
